On another note, is there a 3rd Genner in the Central Valley (CA) that would be interested in helping me mock-up?

Just need the truck (you can chill, enjoy a beer, talk shop) while I use pre-cut parts for my own measuring.

This way I can easily figure out the placement of the nuts to be welded (how detrimental the spacing is).

    That's 12 gauge

I'd consider it pretty thin for this application, although maybe I just need to get my hands on it when installed

I would've thought this set would be better made in 11 gauge as it's thicker (.125) and very popular in general

3/16" is commonly used for standard bed stiffeners although I've used both 3/16" and 10 gauge

    (3/16" shown here)

not sure what the 4WP ones are made of but I remember them being pretty beefy when installing.

Based on @Captqc caliper's, I'd say that exterior part is 8 gauge (thinner than 3/16")

That's just my best guess since powder coat adds a bit of thickness and I don't know how thick that coating is and even then it's thinner than 7 gauge

Don't know if the inner pieces are the same thickness or not but I'd venture to guess they are

Wish I had the answers. Everything seemed pretty uniform in thickness. The powder coat was pretty thick too. I remember dropping one plate on the concrete and there wasn’t any damage.

let me know if I can help with anything.

Is there also some type of spacer or backing plate behind the plate that is exposed in the bed? What is the main purpose of that backer?

If you are talking about the grey plate, it is just a color plate to give some contrast behind the “4WP” cut into the strap hook plate.

I like this internal set up, but I probably would never need it if I'm not going offroad, huh?

I'm in the Sac area and wouldn't mind assisting.

Love this community. In for a set if they get made.

I also did try to order them from 4WP. Order was cancelled then refunded. Called customer service and they said discontinued.

Welllll, I own a wire feed welder and PPE as well as a grinder and even a carbide burr. I welded a cart for my firewood and it hasn't fallen apart yet, so there's that as a testimonial!

Sir, I consider everyone to be better than me at everything as I don't like to assume.

I will add, my question was specific to the person I was making the mock-up parts for in case the hardware needed to be welded on prior to sending them out

I *might* have a local member come by as I just discussed the plan for using his truck - it would allow me to weld my own hardware on a mock up piece so I can get a better idea of how specific everything needs to be

Really it seems like the long 3 hole plate along with the bracket are the two parts that are very specific (as they bolt together) but that's it
