Thanks! That old 70-200 is razor sharp at F5.6. it's an old piece of kit, predates image stabilization, but it certainly has earned its keep in my bag. It's a shame it's so dull at F2.8, I can't shoot it there.

    Good lord time flys..

Glad you still have the rig! Look forward to that for sure!

    Nice shots!

And why is it that soft? That sounds like a lens alignment issue that needs fixed..

Thats a good point, i could see about having it calibrated. I think its pretty old though, doubt theres any spare parts for it. We are talking about a lens that is from 1995, so it is just part of an old lens. That said, i wouldnt call any of the shots i posted as soft, just shoot at 5.6 and enjoy it.

Well, the Kenda thing may not happen for the July trip.

Have been gone the last couple weeks, but noticed while I was away that FedEx delivered the tires. I never checked, but assumed that they went to the installer that I’d selected and was listed on my receipt. Turns out, they went to the seller, and are sitting in North Carolina.

Only figured this out because I happened to call the installer to confirm my appointment for tomorrow morning at 10 AM.

Called the seller, but they are closed because it’s after 530 Eastern time. Hoping when I call tomorrow morning at 4:30 AM, they can get them shipped out overnight and I can do the install on Friday. Otherwise, I’m off on a family trip for the entire time before the Montana trip starts.

    ah bummer.

    Also weird.

FYI, my Kendas did excellent in the rocks on Shoshone and wet rocks. They are great.

That sounds like FedEx. Did I tell you the story about my FN wheels. Shipped from Socal via FedEx in 4 separate boxes. 3 of them got here on time and one was found in St Louis about a week later. Ask Dan about FedEx shipping. @drr :D

Well, whatever happens, hopefully I get them eventually. Never thought it might have been FedEx's fault, but I guess it could have been; guess I'll find out tomorrow when I talk to parishtire.

My Maxxs don't have much tread left, but some are worse than others, so I'll choose the best four for the trip if I have to. Was just looking forward to getting a good pavement road noise test, and see how they performed in a week of dirt, right off the bat!

I need an oil change and tire rotation and hopefully brave these temps to throw my shocks on. might have to do it before work and sun up this week. pretty proud of the oil situation. 3k in 2 months aint too shabby for a rig that doesnt get driven other than adventures AND working full time!

Nice on using the van. I also enjoyed when I was doing an oil change every month, except for all the driving that entailed, hahaha!

I did oil change and driveline grease this morning as well as new brake pads on the driver side after 145K miles on the first set. Gonna try to get a leaf removed from the pack and fix the rear locker prior to the trip, but the big work will come after:

    trans / t-case seal -- I hate pulling the t-case
all four shock rebuild -- easy, but time consuming

Which leaf are you pulling. As I recall you didn't like a leaf being out of it and had to put another one in when you left here. Also let me know when you're going to do shocks and I'll make sure to bring over the nitrogen and leave it with Mike. I'm going to do mine tomorrow

    Yeah, so let's see...

It's a 5-leaf pack, you'd guessed that pulling leaf #2 was going to put me at the correct ride height

    upload_2024-7-8_20-33-37.png

As you recall, I was just a tad low when fully loaded, so I put #2 back in. You thought that was going to raise it 2", which seemed like a LOT to me for a single leaf, given how flat the pack was already, but holy shit if you weren't exactly 100% on the money with that. It was about 1" too high at that point.

So, I'm going to pull leaf #3 this time, which should lower it back down about 1", at least, if leaf spring "capacity(?)" is somewhat consistent across packs. At least, that's how it worked with my Alcan pack.

...which, by the way, is no longer *my* Alcan pack, so that's nice.

I might be remembering wrong but I'm pretty sure I pulled 3 in your numbering scheme. I have the picture somewhere but it's hard to tell without a reference distance. But I hope you end up at the height you're looking for mostly cuz it's just a ton of work and I have a feeling it's hot over there like it is here right now

Well I tried doing the shocks tonight. Got one half way done but not strong enough to collapse it to hook the bottom in. The old shock was def blown out though so optimistic that these foxes make it rise much better.

Putting real high pressure gas charged shocks in can be a real pisser. I use a jack and prybar with a ratchet strap to get my rears in haha
