Every St. Pattie’s Day (or on the closest Friday or Saturday if the 17th doesn’t fall on one those days), numerous police departments from all over Bucks County run a DUI checkpoint on Route 611/Easton Road in Warrington right near TJ Smith’s restaurant and Sloane Porsche.

This checkpoint operates from 10pm to 3am, and it is the one I got stopped at in 2017; I now have a shortcut (which I will not reveal publicly, but will gladly reveal to anyone who PMs me ;)) that totally bypasses that section of Easton Road. The police block that section of Easton Road in both directions, so the shortcut is obligatory if you want to avoid the checkpoint.

I don’t know exactly how long they’ve been operating the checkpoint at that location, but my parents and I moved to Warrington in March 2016; I encountered it for the first time in March 2017, and if I have to be driving on that stretch of 611 after 10pm, I got out of my way to avoid the checkpoint.

It amuses me greatly that they still run that checkpoint in that exact spot, because more people have gotten wise to it and the line of cars waiting to go through it seems to get smaller every year!

My cousin’s fiancé used to work for a company that repaired pipe organs, and he drove a non-CDL box truck. I forget whether he was stopped for speeding or an equipment violation, but he got pulled over by a Maryland State Trooper who claimed he smelled weed in the cab of the truck. My cousin’s fiancé and his coworker had nothing to hide, so they let the trooper search the truck and they even brought in a drug sniffing dog. I don’t think they got a ticket, but that incident is one of at least two that left my cousin’s fiancé with a low opinion of state police as a whole.

Another time, in New Jersey, my cousin’s fiancé stopped at a DOT weigh station in the organ company’s truck. The state trooper kept them there for over an hour because he was absolutely convinced that the organ repair company was a cover for a drug smuggling operation. The trooper made no attempt to hide the fact that he thought they were drug traffickers. My cousin’s fiancé called his boss to explain why they would be late, and his boss demanded to know the trooper’s badge number. Of course, there were no illegal drugs on the truck and trooper finally allowed them to leave…

I don’t have a very high opinion of the NJ State Police either, and I still will not drive in unfamiliar parts of Jersey because of my experiences in 2023; I got pulled over by state troopers in New Jersey twice in six days!

@Stitchgirl90 (my girlfriend) was still living in Washington Township, NJ at that time. On the last Saturday in January 2023, I went to a cars and coffee in Paulsboro and then drove roughly an hour and a half up to Washington to see Amanda; I was driving on an unfamiliar highway and I got pulled over for “failure to maintain lane”. Translation: I was in a vehicle not registered in New Jersey, and I encountered a bored cop who was fishing for drunks. It was a windy day and I will admit that sometimes my truck is hard to keep totally straight at speeds of 65+ MPH; I didn’t get a ticket that time…

Fast-forward six days to the first Friday in February 2023. I did not work on Fridays at my previous job, so I had the day off; I drove to Washington to get Amanda, and then we spontaneously decided to visit my step-grandma roughly an hour away in Edison, NJ.

In my defense, the posted speed limit on the turnpike pretty much statewide in Pennsylvania is 70 MPH. As per PennDOT rules, you only get points if you are convicted of driving 6 MPH or more over the posted speed limit, and “5 over” is what the majority of speedings are reduced to when people fight them.

I set the cruise control for 75 whenever I am on the turnpike in PA, and in my experience, PA troopers don’t give a shit if you keep it below 85. I had Amanda in the front seat and I was doing 81 MPH in a 65 zone. Another state trooper pulled me over, not only for speeding, but once again failure to maintain lane; I ended up with a drastically reduced ticket on the spot for a lesser charge that only cost $55 and didn’t result in points on my license. This is the only ticket that I’ve ever just paid and didn’t fight, but I still hate driving through Jersey!

I 100% believe that I was targeted because my truck is registered in Pennsylvania, and I still hate driving in NJ to this day.

Just this past winter, I drove into Jersey to deliver a DoorDash order. My girlfriend was with me. I had Christmas lights on my truck, which I have been doing off and on since 2011 and which has been a yearly holiday tradition since 2019. I finally got pulled over for it in Souderton, PA on Thanksgiving Eve in 2023 and did not get a ticket; I don’t really give a flying fuck what the law says in this case because it is my truck, titled in my name, and I will do what I want to MY TRUCK.

That said, the Souderton cop was very nice.

While I was driving in Jersey en route to deliver the DoorDash order, I passed an accident of some sort that had several cops on scene. Amanda and I noticed that as we drove past, a couple of the cops looked very hard at us as if to say “we’d be pulling you over if we didn’t have more important things to do”…

I’m sorry, but FUCK NEW JERSEY.

Good morning all. Strong storms came thru Berks county around midnight, we needed the rain and hope it chases the humidity out of here.

Good morning Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. Still not feeling well took the day off today. Let the boss know yesterday at 5pm. So he can have the routes adjusted accordingly. Sucks losing hours but feeling like shit and working in the heat don't mix well. Not sure what is going on super sore throat and constant bathroom breaks isn't a good mixture. The government is poisoning the air. J/k I dunno what is up lol

Morning all! We barely got any storms but the surrounding ones did manage to cool everything off. Thankful for that at least.

We got a good dose of rain last night, and the air is dry and fresh this morning, pushed along by a nice breeze. :woot: I have house opened up again, finally!
