My 2008 Tacoma occasionally will die as soon as it starts. When this first started occurring, I could change Key fobs And it would start and run. Now that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I noticed today when this occurred the clock was off the radio was off, and the dome light does not come on when the door is open. Is there a relay that controls power to all of these that could be going bad?

It likely not tied to the dome, radio, or clock issue.

I'm betting it's a bad fuel pump resistor.

Is the truck doing it right now?
    Or just intermittently?

BTW, Check the 7.5A Dome and 7.5A Acc fuses. (for the clock, radio, and dome issue)

It’s not doing it right now, and of course, the clock the dome light and the radio are all working. when this happens, none of those work

Load test the battery and check/clean the battery connections. Also clean the throttle body

Is the anti-theft warning light flashing at all since you started using the different key?

Is there a relay that provides power to accessories like the radio the clock, the dome light and also provides power power to essential sensors required for the engine to run?

Check to make sure that the "Short Pin" in the under hood fuse panel is tight and not loosing connection. This is not a fuse it is just a shorting pin and supplies power to the Radio, Dome and Body ECU.

I know that several people have had an issue with a loose fitting Short Pin.

I agree the start and die may well fit into the Fuel Pump Resistor behind the battery.

OK, thanks I’ve checked it. It seems to be tight. I tried to pull it out, but it doesn’t seem to wanna come out. wiggled it around a little bit. We’ll see what happens.

Mine is doing the same thing on occasion. I replaced the relay and fuel pump resistor and it did it again.

I read a post a few weeks ago saying that leaving the key partially in the ignition could trigger the anti theft and it would reset after removing it for a few minutes.

I'm going to pay attention to the red light under the radio next time it does it.

Yeah, but are the connections good? Did you remove the thwrmianls and check/clean inside them? I just had someone call me stranded and I get there and see just a tiny bit of green corrosion (and I mean tiny). Wire brushed inside terminals, the batt terminals itself, and presto, started right up.

Yes, use the battery terminal brush cleaner and made them shiny so it’s not that I have left the key and partially on occasions maybe that’s it. Thanks for your responses
