2017 Trd sport 4x4 Pulled into a parking spot just now and went to shift into park. Shifter moves freely but doesn’t change into any other gear other than D. It is in fact in drive bc when I try take foot off brake it moves forward. Any ideas? How easy is it to access the shift linkage on the automatic?

Thank you for the quick reply. I found that the nut holding the shift linkage had fall en off. Thankful it’s not an expensive fix.

If you are going to have a problem that is a pretty good one.

Glad it was an EZ fix.

This is the reason I stick around TW.

Little things posted that can help in the long run. Not discussions about mpg, cold air intakes, what’s the largest tire….

Thanks for posting the issue. Will have to check mine. Never thought about doing so.

What's the chance of this nut backing off?

good idea I just added it to the original post. No recent offroadinh but a local shop had dropped my transmission a few months ago to replace rear main seal. I suspect it’s connected to that.

Haven’t offroaded recently. Had the transmission out (local shop) about 2 or 3 months ago. I’m wondering if they didn’t tighten that nut to spec or if it needs loc tite.
Thank fully I was able to pop the cable back in long enough to move it into park, crank it up and put it back in drive to get to the shop. They put a new nut on for free and I was back on the road.

I now will check mine since my tranny was pulled when replacing the coolant crossover pipe.
What side of the tranny, driver or passenger is that linkage on.

    thanks

My bad. Had a lot going on between the truck breaking down and a work meeting on my schedule which was starting soon after + trying to send messages to colleagues to move other meetings on my calendar (which were later) to free up some time to run back and crawl under truck and look around.

it was hectic afternoon to say the least.

This is the reason I need to double check mine. Been off-road more than on-road in the last 12 months. Don’t need to get stuck without a nut…yeah that didn’t sound good…

It’s in the drivers side. easy to access once you are under the truck.

They forgot to tighten it putting the transmission back in. It happens

I highly doubt any amount of offroading will back that thing off. It's just not under that type of stress

Agreed, this is on the shop that did the transmission work. Hopefully the OP took it back to the same shop.

I wouldn't take it back, that nut is easily tightened by hand in the driveway. But I'd consider calling and telling them what was found

Unfortunately I was an hour from home at work parked on the side of city street with parallel parking. I also didn't have the nut. Thankfully the trans shop was about 4 miles away and I was able to hobble it over there and they put a new nut on with loc tite.

fwiw I just went back and looked at my records. The work was done 5 months ago (I previously posted it was 3 months ago...I was wrong). Since the work was done I've driven approx 13,000 miles. If it's the trans shops fault I'm surprised it took that long/that many miles for it to fall off but I guess it's not impossible.
