So last night in a fit of sleep deprivation and casual alcoholism we removed the entire stock turbo control solenoid rack on the RX... that basically makes the rest of the harness for that little engine like 10 wires haha.

Idk it was just a thought - I didn’t think it was enough time for the has to degrade that much either, but I’m just considering all the possibilities. It seems more likely to be a misfire like wulf said, although I thought that would give me a code.

Both Kira and Zane are onto something regarding the idle/driving

It's sat awhile, and your issue sounds likes a misfire/stumbling but not to the point where you have a bad wire or anything...which could be the gas currently in it

I'd listen to them before assuming other things to be the culprit which have nothing to do with the current issue at hand, like the hole in your muffler you mentioned

Definitely don't need a muffler to drive a tacoma. Although it helps lol, my exhaust once fell off in Death Valley, and then my battery fell into the pulleys... that was a good trip

It's not that bad if you just delete the sequential turbo system, which BTW barely affects spool of the stock twins. Thing still takes off just fine with the Haltech controlling the wastegate and using spool assist. It made over 300whp no problem on the twins in parallel with the haltech. We are just cleaning up the wiring and swapping in a whole new fuel system since he maxed out the stock injectors, so now it has 1500cc primaries and 1750cc secondaries. Gonna rip, oh also changing it to modern smart coils, the stock spark coils are weak.

Here was his run the same day I dyno'd though, healthy little engine.

Yea that’s what I was thinking - that the gas/ethanol had degraded slightly. I wasn’t thinking that it had damaged any parts on my truck.

I could see you rocking an LS400. I kinda want a 98-00 even though ik it’d probably be another money pit lol

    Oooh that sounds sexy

Yeah I paid to get much of the rat's nest hoses replaced, as well as the non-sequential mod before going single turbo months later

People don't realize just how agile that little car is, and any real power given to it makes it addicting to drive

    Sometimes miss mine

I fell in love with my buddy's LS400

The 1UZ feels so much nicer than the 2UZ

The 2UZ feels like it grew up, got married, settled down, had kids, invested in a roth IRA and adopted a golden retreiver

Nah, the 2UZ "breeds" golden doodles because it thinks they have more value than any other mutt.

Yea I really want one, even though they’re getting up there in age. I feel like most of them were pretty well taken care of though, as long as some kid didn’t slam it and take it to sideshows.

I'll try to sneak a picture of my neighbor's dumped bucket of an LS400, thing is trash, or modern art, I can't tell the difference

I don't know how it is in your area but here, they're like the older IS cars

Either some dumbass kid got one, and it's the new Nissan altima with fucked bumpers and fenders, stupid wheels, etc or it's mint and owned by an old person

My friend said he had his for over a decade, and the only issue he's had was that solenoid I replaced

Nothing else, and he beats on it putting a ton of miles as he was commuting 6hrs to work

Yea they’re dead reliable. I hear about them with 400k miles and still having the factory compression numbers.

Until you get one, end up having to spend $400 to repair something on it, and proceed to call it an unreliable POS money pit and cross posting here, the LS400 FB group, and the Lexus forums :luvya:

Got a new, small press brake coming in

Still got the SWAG kit, but I'm going to repurpose that for a larger 30" setup or something when I finally build one myself

The small setup will be perfect for most jobs
