I've had mine since like 2013. Replaced bearings once. It lives outside and finally last year I replaced the plywood and went deck board.

I've modified mine some. Welded the tongue to not folding (did this sometime in 2021) and lengthened it.

I've had 3 bikes on it before I put any sides on it.

Yeah the extra cc's and weight help quite a bit. 80mph is much smoother on the 1290 vs my 701. I want the big bike if I'm spending a lot of time on the highway.

Which bikes are you looking at?

Dont know what the speed rating is on the tires, the ones I have seen were rated 65 mph IRC, but a change to radials should get you up for distance when needed

Stock 12” tires are 55mph limited i believe but the 13” upgrades are higher.

Maybe a Bonneville, possibly a BMW 1100R/1150R. Nothing set in stone, may not get anything and just ride the F800 more. Honestly getting tired of all the registrations and insurance coming due at once.

I feel that, I have 6 vehicles and the insurance + registration is brutal.

My 12" on my pirouge trailer are Taskmaster brand and have an 80 mph rating. I had 12" radials on my crappie boat trailer and they were 75 or 80.

Not motorcycle related but played golf for the first time in about 10 years today. I played before, maybe once a month for about 8 years during the summer. Anyway I went and hit a bucket of balls yesterday.
I hit my first ever hole in ONE!!! It was a 148 yd 8 iron. It bounced about 10ft from the hole and went right it!!! And on top of that I shot a 91

Meant to reply to this, got distracted. LOL

I got probably 3 or 4 more years before I hang it up. Got some inner ear issue that fucks with my balance. Seems my brain is using my vision to handle most of my balance instead of my inner ear. Gets worse, I will start exploring options.

But the gist of my reply is, the folks I used to ride with, none I want to ride with ride anymore. A bro in-law we used to tour with a bit, got T boned and left leg broken in something like 220 places. They fixed it, and his first ride after the repair resulted in the bone collapsing like a telescope so they everything fused it together with rods. Kind of fucked him up, he was still riding at a reduced level until rheumatoid arthritis and gout caught up to him. No mas riding. Another cohort T boned a lady in a Volvo, he now has the mental capacity of a 5 year old. One more had a close enough miss that he decided he was done. The only folks left all thought 300 miles a day was a hard ride. I dont consider a 300 mile day a hard ride in any shape or fashion.

Robert Higdon (if you dont know him, ya need to read his books) said, everybody quits at some point. My point aint that far away compared to how many years I been around.

It aint for me to say when other people quit, because I may have talked the guy who T-boned the Volvo to keep riding. I dont like that feeling.

And I am pretty picky who I ride with, so now, I ride alone. Havent been on a ride with anyone in years.

He needs to be in leather, with a helmet and sliders on his rig.

    Lol Atgatt is a must!

Also regarding your post above…I’m in the camp of been hit by a car injured and still riding. I agree it’s a personal decision, I thought twice about getting back on but ultimately can’t stop doing what I love.

It is up to all of us to decide. In 57 years of riding never been injured badly but I did kill the shit out of a deer near Brazos Summit in New Mexico. Popped every plastic joint on the Gold Wing fairing and bent the radiator mount in and put me into a hell of a tank slapper at 60 mph. LOL It flung around and pinned my wifes leg between the saddle bag and the deer. Left a deep ass bruise. She mended at the Taos Inn with a couple margaritas, and I put the bike back together in the parking lot that night. Made it back home the next day and she had a doc appointment the day after.
