You can see it here, off to the right side. The only access is from the hood.

I think you could have gotten either transmission with that package, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Not in Canada, there are more choices in US.

That's a curious thing. Got any idea why?

Smaller market. We don't have any 2WD or AccessCabs anymore.

My ideal truck would have been an SR5 AccessCab, 4WD, 6MT, locking rear diff and built-in brake controller.

Here’s an excellent video. It should be required for new owners that are going to tow a camper. Enjoy!

Gotcha. Out of curiosity, do you have a block heater in yours? I'm going to need one and I'm wondering where it goes.

No, it’s 500$ option. I see the plug goes in the bumper, but it’s the other end that is important

In 2016, the Missoula dealer was adding them to all vehicles. That's where my new Taco is showing up, and I've got my fingers crossed. If not, Katz makes them for about $70. I'll just need to figure out where they slip into.

if you are not 1000% great at driving a manual i can see burning up a clutch quick trying to get a trailer moving up a hill or backing up a hill into a camping spot.. i would get the auto... also the builder is a tease on toyotas website. you cant order a new tacoma. youd have to find one built to whatever specs you want somewhere in the country and then try and get it that way.

    He's spot on.

I told my dealer what I wanted and articulated that I didn't want anything added at the port—no $575 bed liner application or other stuff. Three days later, he had one, and after an email or two, we agreed on a price.

It really sucks how little choice we get in Canada compared to the US market for Toyota trucks. I really like the TRD Sport with a short bed and double cab, or an Xtracab with the 6' bed, but the former is manual-only, and we can only dream about the latter. I don't want to settle for an OR premium, because I'd be paying for features I don't want, and I already have a Jeep for the trails. Hopefully down the line, more trim levels/configurations are offered here like we saw towards the end of the 3rd gen's production run.

You are welcome. One thing he doesn't mention in the video is the impact wind can have on campers. When you encounter cross winds, slow down and be careful. No sense in flipping the whole rig and we've seen instances of members here that have done that.

If it isn't obvious, make sure to pick a Tacoma trim that has the features in the video. You'll be glad you did.

    Good luck!

Great point. For the wind, it's worth having a weight distribution hitch with sway control like Reese Dual Cam or Equal-i-zer. Also useful on 2 lane highways when transport trucks come from the opposite direction.

The price sure jumps once all the features come into play. From the starting point of a MT $41,800 and AT $42,900 it shoots up past $55,000 fast.

Thank you all very much for your advice. I take it to heart.
