^ this entire answer is 100% correct. Definitely fixable, will be totaled because the cost of repairs + the expected salvage return will exceed the value of the truck.

Also, this is a comp claim, not a collision claim. Your truck was hit by an object, not by another vehicle. You are negligent free. The trucking company is 100% responsible for this. Their insurance will pay you. Trucking companies and CDL drivers cry and piss and moan and deflect whenever they fuck shit up. But the insurance company doesn't have a leg to stand on, and they know it.

You can also turn it in to your own insurance, as noted. Your insurer may offer to waive your deductible, or you can as them to. They might, they might not. If they do not, your insurer will include your deductible in the subrogation demand they send to the truck owner's insurance company.

Totaled most likely. That door will never close and seal properly. You're looking at persistent wind noise and water intrusion if they try to repair it

The first sentence is correct for the reasons outlined above, but you are wrong about being unable to be repaired properly. It's not even a very complicated repair. Time consuming and involved, but not complicated.

Im going to go against the grain and say fixable. Door, roof skin, and uni-side. While not a cheap fix, I have fixed worse on chevy pickups when I worked in the body shop.

I would say about $2k in parts and about $10k labor and paint.

But to fix it you would first pull the damage straight, then you cut the roof skin off, cut the uniside off (this is the whole side of the truck) and weld on the new parts. Then fill and paint.

I have done several of them and they are pretty straight forward.

I hear ya, but I've just seen pretty poor work coming out of body shops these days. In my area they are overwhelmed and understaffed. What do you do if you have a pesky water leak in 6 months? Open a claim again? Too much potential for nagging issues down the road

Just my opinion, good luck to OP..

Oh, don't get me wrong, it could absolutely be poorly fixed. But that's different than "it will never be right/be the same," and "you are guaranteed to have wind/water leaks." I know several techs who could fix it perfectly. I also know several techs that I wouldn't even let attempt it.

The question is, where is your insurance company going to send you? The good shop or the bad shop..

My state lets the customer choose the shop, not sure about other states. But insurance cant require you to use their preferred shop here.

Yes but then they'll just argue about the cost if you go to the better shop. And you end up paying a larger share to get the work done the way you want

My experience dealing with insurance companies has been on the mechanical repair side, and those estimates are tiny compared to big body damage estimates.
I'm certainly not an expert on the larger body/collision situations

Toyota doesn't sell a uniside, just an A, B, and C pillar separately. The headliner alone is $1,514. Outer center pillar is $370, the 2 roof rail reinforcements are $204 and $309, cab corner is $505, roof is $999. Used door is probably $800-ish, or a new door shell is $667.

Customer always has the right to choose the shop. This is true in every state.

    4 run, 2 don't
    @Taco_htx16

    That'll most likely get fixed

So make sure to claim -

Loss of use, for the time you are left without your vehicle

Diminished value, because not only will the repairs never be as good as new, but because of the hit on the vehicle's history report

And finally, check with insurance to ask about how long the work (both physical/electronically) is covered

Some people are clueless and think the repair they got isn't warrantied when in reality it is

Remember, you didn't ask for this accident to occur so you need to make damn sure everything is made right in your eyes

Dang, I knew they sold them for the 2nd gen, but was not sure about the 3rd.

Thats not really how insurance works. You have a deductible, then insurance pays the rest.

It will be totaled because the insurance will be able to recoup the most cost from an auction. People bid ridiculous amounts for these trucks
