So I have a 2022 Tacoma TRD Off Road. I had a dumpster dropped off at my house yesterday while i was at work, but they dropped it too close to a wall where I can't open the door. Would my Tacoma be able to drag the dumpster about 10ft? I know the towing capacity is just over 6k but that's towing, not dragging and the empty dumpster is 5k lbs.. Figured I'd ask before regretting anything.

I'd do it. I'd also be more concerned about gouging the shit out of my driveway, though. Assuming this is a roll off, there should be wheels in the back, but I'd put some plywood or something in the front.

Or, if you want to get all Egyptian on it: maybe jack up the front and stick a piece of pipe or something under there sideways, so it can roll forward on that. I guess I'd do that regardless, because it's going to be a pain to move otherwise.

Use 4Lo if you've got it.

Also, this is the 4th gen section, so get ready for some off topic responses, lol.

I wouldn't bother, there are going to be some insane friction forces at play. I'd call them back and have them fix it, not worth potentially damaging your truck.

2nd gen 4.0 6spd here, with heavy duty springs for towing more than the taco should tow...

so, i doubt you will be able to drag it. I needed to move my shipping container (about 6k lbs) about two feet on flat smooth concrete.
That was a big NO. I put it in 4Lo, my stage 3 clutch did not slip, I kept stalling or having half the tires peel out...

If i kept trying, something in the driveline was going to break, I could feel it binding up.

I got a jack and put the container up on landscaping timbers for dunnage.
the steel container then slid on the lumber and i was able to move it a few feet.

do not put something under it that will roll, because it would likely keep rolling out of control.

I agree. It's not worth breaking something.

Agreed on having the company do it themselves but if you must use pipes. One note is make sure you have a way to stop it, stuff moves real easy.

I moved most of a bridgeport (1400 lbs) by hand and by myself just using pipes and leverage.

Real answer - Call the roll off operator and say they misplaced it - you need it repositioned. They do that all the time.

Assuming a roll off as mentioned above? How many wheels? What surface is it on?

Id be more concerned about messing up the surface its on than the truck, but lots of variables.

Also for the love of god, make sure you have a way to stop it once it gets moving!!

So your plan is to hook up a chain, put it in 4LO, and try to pull it? Uh, hell no.

If you go against the advice here, please setup a GoPRO camera and film it for us. It's Friday. We need tow porn while we drink.

    0.00% chance of that happening.

    --------------------------------

Tell the dumpster company to move the can to a spot where it can be used.

A "5,000 lb tow capacity" assumes, critically, that the load is on normal-size trailer tires attached to standard road-worthy ball-bearing hubs + axle.

If this dumpster is on little 6" or 8" steel casters at one end... mayyyyybe, but not likely.
If it's on skids, absolutely not, you'll just break your U-joints and/or diff.
