Where might I find oak or ash in a suitable size [thinking 1x2 or something similar cause IDK what standard sizes are]

IDK jack about wood or very little..
My cabinets are maple, I have some pine furniture, oak is heavy :notsure:

The few things I have "built" were with salvage lumber from our local 'antique' [aka some antiques, lots of junk] store so the cost of failure was pretty minimal.

did the 1x2 supports break? It can be fixed. I dont know what tools you have. But couple things. You could add dowels to help with strength but prob not necessary if you have the supports. If you have some good clamps, and 4 cargo straps (these work good: )

    1. hand sand the glue off the edges, wipe off the dust with a wit cloth and sand again and wipe of dust again. Id use 80grit but just sand off the glue. It doesnt have to be smooth because you want glue to stick to it.
    2. Prep your clamps and cargo straps, the clamps i listed above are to keep each end level/ even. Id put a cargo strap on each end then 2 more spaced in the middle. The cargo strap will go 360° around short side. Prep the table to glue like it sits, legs will be up.put wax paper under the table where it will be sitting so glue wont stick to floor.
    3. Once prepped tilt the short piece that broke so feet are on ground. Apply thick bead of titebond III Glue down the whole length of the short broke side. Spread evenly so theres no dry spots. Tilt table legs up, align the ends, bring together the 2 pieces put the clamps just snug but not super tight. Now tighten the cargo straps just snug you will see glue squeeze out.( You can put pieces wood under the metal part straps or leave as it will be underneath.)
    3. Make sure the ends are aligned and tap them even if they arent aligned. Tighten the cargo straps down tight. Then the wood clamps down. Glue should squeeze out the length of the edge. You can wipe it with damp cloth and remove the glue.
    4. Now put on the 1x2 strips of woodabd screw them down. Pre drillthe holes in 1x2 so you dont split the wood.
    5. Let it sit overnight to 24hrs for glue to set.

Hope this helps. Any questions let me know.

    That helps immensely, thank-you.

the 1x2 supports did not break, they were no longer attached
i thought those supports might have been part of however it was mounted prior to me owning it..
i thought about the dowl thing but i don't have that tool and it would probably be overkill as long as i support it well

1.) I was going to let the glue set/dry and then attach the supports
Any reason I shouldn't do it this way?
when i got it, it was just a slab of butcher block

I might add a 3rd support but nothing wrong with waiting for it to dry. I'd add screws about 2" on either side of where it broke on supports. Just remember to predrill the holes
