I need to make an airbox for my turbo filter so I can have a functional snorkel again.
It's also worth noting that the junction inside the fender where that bent Silicone section connects to the existing intake is not great

Just because you can't read the drawing doesn't mean they are wrong.

When the engineers tell you to pipe it one way but it goes against everything in the equipment mfg literature on how to install it then yeah im pretty sure its wrong.
Especially when they give you all the sizing then have sheets notes like “verify with manufacturer install requirements”

like this humidifier im installing that the drawings show 1 1/2’ npt connections but the unit has 3” pipe instead.

The "existing" parts don't exist on mine anyway. lol. The stock box was destroyed when I bought the truck so I ran a crappy intake pipe to replace the basically boxless mess. The fender pieces I don't think were even there -- I looked on the 4runner to see what it's supposed to look like. lol. I see what you're talking about.

I'm running a filter right off the turbo now - not really sacrificing much to go to a snorkel (plus lets me get in those big puddles). :)

Look I'm am engineer who has to manufacture designs of other engineers where often there are blatant flaws, so I feel you pain

You're a rare example of a engineer that's experienced the pain of practical and realistic applications. Many live in the textbook world of ideals and design BS that can only function in such situations.

I wasn't hating I just figured it would take longer for the bigger filter to clog and restrict. It was the first filter I bought after putting the turbo on and my best guess on Amazon got me this huge filter that barely fits. In truth if it was maybe 3/4 of an inch shorter I'd be happier, this one currently pushes on the filler neck for the washer reservoir that was already cracking from age
