Can somebody check out this snapshot from TechStream and tell me if it looks normal? If somebody could tell me what all the readings mean, that would be even better!

I feel like my 08 4.0L 4x4 Auto idles too high, even after it's fully warmed up.
A cold start goes to an immediate 2k rpm which gradually slows to about 800rpm hot idle with everything off in neutral
When it's cold, I have to plant my foot on the brake or it will take off and after it's warmed up, I feel like the engine tries to push me through stoplights while I'm slowing down.

    Things I've done/checked.

    Checked Codes. None stored.
    Cleaned the throttle body.
Checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner.
    Cleaned MAF
    Unplugged PS pressure switch.
Commanded throttle closed with the ETCS utility in TechStream. A gap could still be seen around the blade and it could be pushed farther closed by hand
I've tried several different idle relearn sequences. Nothing changes.

I'm ready to put a new throttle body on, but I'd like a second opinion before I spend $250.

Those aren't too far off, unfortunately Toyota doesn't give desired idle speed only desired throttle position which appears it's where it wants it.

You might want to check the PS SW PID and see if it is on, I remember someone had an unsolveable high idle on one of these and it was a stuck power steering pressure switch.

My hot idle is about 650.
Yours says 700 in the PID.
I'm going off the tach in the truck. Never checked it off the PID.

But do as Dm93 said, check the PS switch.

It's OFF. I read that old post and unplugged it before I got TechStream running.

I hope this isn't normal. Will yours take off and run 20mph in D with your foot off the gas?

I "think" my load wasn't as high as yours, best I can remember.
    34% seems high?

I was just comparing that to the chart posted above.
It looks like 11-16 is normal range. @Dm93 thanks for that.

I would expect it to be setting a P0505 (Idle Control Malfunction) if the actual and desired idle speed was off more than about 200 RPM.

Typically the only things that cause a high idle are vacuum leaks (but you would see high fuel trims on a MAF engine like the 4.0) or an input causing the PCM to bump the idle up.

Have you owned the truck since new?

Has it always idled like this or is this something that just started?

I bought it as a "mechanic special" about 6 months ago. Every light in the dash was on, multiple codes, massive exhaust leaks, stalling, misfires, harsh shifting trans, and a very week fuel pump.

One of the codes had something to do with unable to control idle, but I don't remember the exact one.

I first noticed it after I cleaned the throttle body early on during a tuneup but honestly, it was running so bad before I may not have noticed it. The first thing I thought was that it needed to "re-learn" but it never has.

I have almost everything fixed and the truck runs really well now, it's just the idle speed that seems excessive. I do still have codes for cat efficiency, but I can't imagine those affecting the idle.

Did you unhook that battery after cleaning the throttle body to reset the learned values in the PCM?

Ya, multiple times over the last several months for various reasons.

Does it seem unusual to you that the throttle commanded position and fully closed learned position are so close?

What do you think about it still having a gap when commanded closed or the high engine load?

I know mine the idle speed is kinda goofy for a few days after a battery disconnect or PCM reset until it fully learns but it mainly does it when coasting in neutral or with the clutch in.

Can't say I've ever looked at those values on mine, I can take a look tomorrow if I remember.

I'm assuming that was done KOEO?

Was that screenshot taken in Park?

I have never put a throttle body on a Toyota before for any reason, I know 1st gens had issues with the throttle blade wearing into the bore and causing high idle But I'v never seen where anyone had that issue on a 2nd gen. I'm not saying it can't be bad but it would be odd for sure.
Do you know anyone with a 4.0 that you could "borrow" the throttle body off of to test?

Key on engine off and accelerator depressed are the two requirements to run the test. With the key off, the throttle can be pushed closed until there is no gap. It went to the same .7v with a gap when commanded closed during the test.

I was pretty rough when I cleaned it and I opened it way past 90 degrees. I'm wondering if I over traveled one of the sensors.

I don't remember now that I think about it. It was late and it was dark so I probably had electrical load from the headlights. I'll recheck tomorrow.

No, but I should probably go "test drive" something on Marketplace again to see if it's the same. I don't remember the other ones I drove acting like this and I think I would have noticed it.
My options are a used OEM one for $100, a Hitachi for $250, or a cheapy off Amazon for $75. I'm not opposed to spending the money, I'm just not sure the throttle body is the issue.

While my truck doesn't seem to idle that high.
It will idle up a hill with the AC on. (when the idle bumps up)

I just learned to press the brake harder.

I just double checked. My "Calculate Load" is 34% in park with everything off and fully warmed up. It's 39% idling in gear. I'm going to try idling it without the belt on and see what happens.
I just ordered a used oem throttle body off e-bay. It either fixes it, does nothing, or creates a new problem, lol. Either way, it's probably $34 well spent if it saves me time.

Does this seem normal? KOEO and the maf is reading .57 gm/s.

It's plausible, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
In any case any slight error in MAF reading would be corrected by fuel trims, it wouldn't cause a high idle.
