I found lots of posts about adding a driver handle but didn't find any about adding a grab handle above the passenger door. My wife is short and the stock handle is far forward. Anyone add a handle above the door? I know it will probably never look like a factory piece but would like it to look not too much like a hack.

Do you have a curtain airbag? If there there is an airbag be careful.

The real problem I have with that area is that I could not find a mounting point that is sufficient to do chin-ups on. The only way I can conceive of putting up a handle is to drill and rivnut the roof rail, and I don't need handles bad enough to do that.

The handle itself would be easy. You could buy the jeep-style paracord ones.

I had to add these headrest handles in my truck for my Mom and wife since they are height challenged. They can be reversed towards the front of the seat and not that expensive. I've seen others that have a longer strap handle that can be stowed next to the seat.

It looks like the airbag is in the post beside the windshield ( And their is labeling there for airbag) rather than the space directly above the passenger door. I seriously doubt the airbag is above the door but of course would do more checking before punching any holes.

This would give a handle to help getting in and is easy. I will look into this. Only thing it doesn't do is give her a place to grab when in the vehicle. She likes to grab the handle in the car at times and misses the handle in the Tacoma. Not like I drive like a maniac so not sure why she feels the need to do that but that's the way it is...

Airbags and wires and stuff I definitely wouldn't want to put a screw into! Don't know what I was thinking. The airbag marking is on the side post but is on a piece of hard plastic that you wouldn't want flying at you if the actual deployment was from there.
