2024 Tacoma, Paint defects! Look before you buy…

Is it lemoned yet ?

 

I called corporate, they said by the 24th the letter will be in the mail, needs to be official I guess. Couldn’t tell me anymore… We shall see.

 

Hear anything yet? I'm waiting for a response as well.Called yesterday and was told they couldn't see anything about my case because it was turned over to the legal team.Told me it's been 35 days since case was opened so they have 9 days to respond.

 

Claims dept has made a decision/ determination, official letter is being mailed. I just called my claims representative at corporate and left her a message to contact the claims department to see if she can be made aware of the determination versus me waiting for a letter and verify that the determination has been made, and the letter has been processed. They have always called me back the next day…..


Sounds like you and I are in similar positions at this point…

 

Kind of curiouse on outcome, been following thread, toyota must of sent letter from japan huh ?

Good lord that looks horrible, I bought my white sr5 last week and there’s not 1 dirt nib on the truck. So what was the outcome for you slater?

 

First I was told they had 30 days, then it was sorry you mis-understood. It in fact is 45 days...
Now were beyond that, this is the latest as of today....

I feel for you man, because this is even pissing me off.

 

did you ever consult with an attorney? I dont necessarily like dealing with them, but once they start sending out demand letters it usually speeds up the process.

 

I did consult with an attorney....
Since I filed with toyota directly, theyre sitting on the sidelines waiting to hear their response..
Attorney is generally for lemon law concerns only & paint doesnt qualify for lemon law litigation.
Attorney also said depending on toyota's response they can get involved after their initial decision, so we wait....
But squeeky wheel gets the grease, I do have a handful of repair orders on file at this point for various concerns.

My claim representative called me & said she's working on it herself now & will get an answer by Friday.....

 

Upon deliver a week ago we looked for flaws, nothing really stood out then, but tonight I see a spot of paint run from excesses spray. I'm not too picky and the truck will be used for work. Still, it's not what we've had with 5 other Toyotas and some day at a sale or trade maybe someone will think it was repainted.

My concern for making a warranty claim would be wondering if a re-paint will not hold up as well in the long run.

 

As far as your truck, you want to look at it under artificial light in the garage...


Thats my concern & being in the industry for 30+ years as a ford engine tech, our dealer had a great bodyshop with a really knowledgable crew...
As bad as the ford factory paint is, factory paint is usually better than a re-paint...

So in most cases I would agree with you.
But toyota paint is really crap compared to ford, & if they only agree to repaint the truck & not do a buy-back...
They will offer me lifetime warranty on the paint. Assuming that will just be from peeling, but then again I don't even want to think about stimpulations of that contract at this point....
will lifetime cover oxidation, fading, etc...
In san diego you see 5 year old tacomas where the hood & roof paint is just destroyed, doesnt hold-up like ford paint....
Will they say thats not covered & your fault for not maintaining....

 

Got an email today...
Scheduled for an inspection by the local FSE at my purchasing dealer this coming-up Wednesday.
Not sure what this all means, theyre questioning the severity of it?
Want to inspect & absorb the info & figure out, learn how they put out such a product?
Just verify so they can move-on to the next step?
Verify no other damage before they give me their offer?
Who knows...
Wash on Sunday, & start installing the blue painters tape again.........

 

Filming the inspection might not be a bad idea.

 

Yeah, I have no idea how this will work..
They reserved a rental, have no idea if they even allow me to talk with the FST.
I just texted the service manager of my dealer to ask some specific questions about the process & my options...
See what he says...
