Substitution TRD air filter cleaning kit?

Apparently the TRD PTR43-00088 TRD Air Filter Cleaning Kit is no longer available or produced.
Anyone have knowledge of a substitution kit that is compatible with the TRD air filter material such as K&N or others? Thanks!

 

I use the K&N recharge kit. Just don't over oil the filter or it will cause issues with the MAF sensor. With that said, I've contemplated replacing it with the aFe dry filter. It's also washable but doesn't need to be oiled.

 

I do the same as WA7 said above, fundamentally the TRD air filter is the same type as a K&N so the cleaning and oiling kit for K&N works fine (done twice on my filter so far).

Just make sure you follow the instructions, go light on the oil spraying to avoid over oiling (which can cause oil to get pulled onto the MAF sensor and dirty the intake of overdone) and don't rush the overall process - let the cleaning stuff do its job, let the filter dry properly before oiling, and let the oil soak in properly before driving with the filter in.

I personally still swap it for a dry OEM filter when I go offroad or anywhere with lots of dust though, oiled filters aren't great for filtering or airflow and dirty up quickly in dusty environments vs a dry filter. I only did it once and fortunately didn't have any dirt get past into the intake but the filter was so full of dirt and low on oil I had to clen and re oil it before the next day.

I use a K& N , and swap in an OEM while the K & N is drying out.
Keeps me from waiting around.

wut? Oiled foam filters have been used on dirt bikes for decades presumably because they are the best choice in dusty environments. I’m assuming the TRD filter is an oiled foam filter for the same reason.

I have cleaned oiled foam dirt bike filters many times by simply washing them in gasoline, letting them dry, and then applying 2-stroke oil, but I’m sure there are better ways. I’m kinda old school.

 

K&N as mentioned works well for me

 

Two stroke oil is actually terrible for foam filters. The outer portions of a foam filter are literally oil holders with fairly large holes in them. Air filter oil is a tacky oil that creates a web across the holes to catch the dirt. And, gasoline is terrible for the foam and the glue holding the mounting surface on. It works, but for how long is the $$ (rebuild/performance drop) question.

 

AFE Pro Dry S filters are good. No oil or mess to worry about. No coating your MAF/MAP in oil if you accidentally over oil. Can't under oil it either. Don't need to buy oil for it.

 

They're also built super stout. Definitely built to last!

I can't debate you, but one does what he can when he is a poor-ass boy in the 1980's and owns three $200 dirt bikes so that he has one he that might be able to ride once a day.

 

For me it's more about just not wanting to clean the filter as often vs just shaking a dry filter out to drop most of the dust, and most people I know simply just aren't as good at staying on top of maintenance even that much.
