Well I got the workbench part of the garage project finished.
Since the bench is so narrow I though it would be a good idea to attach it to the wall to prevent a tip over.
    20240713_125545.jpg
This side I had to build up. Bench has no movement now.
    20240713_131822.jpg
Sorted through my hardware to find bolts to mount the vise.
    20240713_132653.jpg
Drilled the holes and got the vise mounted.
    20240713_133656.jpg
Put a bunch of stuff away on the bottom of the bench.
    20240713_143230.jpg
And I filled the can rack. It's nice to have all my mechanic in a can in one place.
    20240713_143253.jpg
Only thing left to do now is to frame in and install a new entrance door. Probably paint the garage next year.

This bench is narrow-ish and has recessed legs to make room for the car so lag bolts hold it to the wall studs. For additional stability the legs closer to the garage door are longer than the legs closer to the inside door, quite a difference in leg length given 8 ft of bench in a sloping garage. I never did fully use it but finished as far as I did just for grins and giggles.

Got this far today before it hit 100 degrees in the garage and I quit.

All the rough cut 5/4 planed to final thickness. Went with 7/8 just because.

None of these board had a straight edge on them, so I used my track saw to fix that. Had to link my two tracks to make this work.

    5B9F414F-1EC6-4322-A23D-8BF008CB398C.jpg

Cleaned up opposite edge on the table saw and sorted into 4 groups for the 4 16” x 76” panel glue ups.

Hopefully get a couple of the panels glued up tomorrow morning before it gets too hot to work again.

I needed a change of pace kind of project, something simple and relaxing. So I decided to make some small little medallions of my churches logo. Our church is in St. Clair Shores, a nautical city, so it has kind of a nautical logo. So I made some copies of the logo and selected some wood. Free wood from packing crates from India, I have no idea what the species is. I ran the boards through the planer to clean them up, about 3/8"
Cut around the nail holes and imperfections on the miter saw to get the blanks I needed.
    20240715_185346.jpg
    Got a nice stack of blanks. About 2 1/2" × 3"
    20240715_185648.jpg
    The logo.
    20240715_185705.jpg
    Cut the patterns out.
    20240715_190047.jpg
    Spray adhesive.
    20240716_164855.jpg
    And attached the patterns.
    20240716_165341.jpg
Used a Brad point bit in the drill press to make some entrance holes.
    20240716_170517.jpg
And cut one out on the scroll saw.
    20240716_180225.jpg
It's about the size of a can of breath mints, lol.
    20240716_180719.jpg
After I get them all cut out I'll give them a light sanding and dip them in blo and take them to church and put them on the information shelf for free.

Got three of the panels for my TV Console glued up. These will be the top, sides and bottom of the cabinet. The center shelf and dividers will be out of thinner stock. It is slow going in this heat.

I really love how the Domino allows me to get super flat panel glue ups with long boards.

I will agree that the Domino is over priced, but for me it is totally worth it. It turned this hack into a passable woodworker.

Still jealous about that Domino! I ended up with the porter cable biscuit joiner, and while its great I should have gone the other way. Some day! How are you liking the HF parallel clamps? I've got a bit of a collection myself and think they are pretty great. Good luck on the console, looking good so far.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
A while back I started this laser cut balsa type plywood train that's supposed to move under its own power. Done, moves a little then stops. There's a misalignment in the gears that I'm probably not going to look for right now.

Then this showed up at Christmas. Corsac M60 six shot rubber band shooter with targets. Loads six rubber bands, pull the hammer back and fire.

    The collection.

Maybe this winter I'll finally tackle this.

I'm waiting for the patent to run out on the domino so another manufacturer can produce it at a more reasonable cost. I too have a Porter Cable biscuit joiners, it's good to help keep things in alignment or for attaching cabinet face frames but not for strength in a bond.

Frustration aside that it doesn't fully run, I do like it and it will somehow be displayed in my office when we build the new house. There is also a coal tender that I may try and find.

I am really curious to see if that is in fact what happens. I’m more suspicious it won’t though and the price Festool asks will remain the same.

"I have more money than time". My family has enough money themselves, and they will be happy if I leave enough funds to cover the final expenses. Not to be completely stupid, but they leave me to my life.

Glued up the three horizontal shelf panels. Still need to glue up the two vertical divider panels before I can cut everything to final dimensions and dry fit the cabinet.

I am currently on vacation, so should make a little more progress tomorrow.

The HF Bremen clamps work just as good as the Bessey. I will likely pick up 4 of the longer ones next time there is a good coupon.

Finished up table #2, I’m looking for ideas on perhaps different legs for #3

I have a case! It is only dry fit for now. I think this is the most work that I have put into something so unexciting. Working with these big panels has been a challenge to say the least. My wife helped cut the top and bottom pieces on the table saw to make it a little safer.

The case is 80” long 16” deep and 21 1/2” tall. The top is miter cut and the bottom is a simple but joint. It will have 4” legs later and be divided into 6 compartments. The top 3 will hold my left, right and center channel speakers and be covered in grill cloth. The two bottom sides will be drawers and the bottom center will be open for my receiver and cable box.

When completed a new 85” TV will grace the top.

If it has a back panel, I would have a out panel matching the exterior size and a secondary inner panel that matches the interior size fused to external ... for strength. I you want "mostly open" instead of enclosed, you can do the same two-tier with just a border-strip along the wood edges that still reinforce the corners from flex/collapse. Interior shelving helps, but that two-tier that touches all inside surfaces along top/bottom/sides was used for a nightstand I wanted to be rock-solid.

Dry fit of case with vertical dividers and shelves!

Wishing that I had a 6” sander. 60 and 80 grit sanded. Still need 120, 180, and 220. My hand is buzzing so that is all for today.

    6E1EDBCE-CC79-4B85-B0E4-62218A52C6B8.jpg

The back will be open, but have “gussets” in all the corners to add strength. The base will have 4 visible legs as well as 2 or three hidden interior legs to add strength.

Currently feeling like I should have used plywood and cinder blocks and been done in an afternoon.

    More progress today.

Cabinet is glue up. Shelves and dividers were installed using pocket screws since you won’t be able to see them and they are much easier to deal with.

    CE566CAD-E46D-4A4F-B3FB-E7F8A917D4D8.jpg 6A3DEB9D-E2C8-4B29-A1BE-4870F521D9F4.jpg 88B2BB08-82C7-4CC3-95EF-3F4AEBB5AF86.jpg

Mocked up the legs / base. Still not exactly sure how I am going to deal with the two hidden legs yet.

    B455457D-AACC-40D5-AE1A-2E9F6DFBDB74.jpg F9E8821A-90F5-4766-B4DA-B2DB26BCE1E9.jpg BB05191F-1C5F-41D6-B9A3-6C6A5F586001.jpg

Grill cloth and magnets are supposed to arrive tomorrow so I will get to work on those after finalizing the legs.

Drawer slides won’t be here until the end of next week, so I wont be able to deal with drawers until they arrive.
