My Tacoma came with a factory plastic bed liner. I’ve had spray in bed liners on other trucks. Question is, is it safe to transport a full plastic gas can on the plastic bed?
    Thanks !

Plastic on plastic should be fine. I believe the issue is when mixing metal cans with plastic beds that can produce spark due to built up static electricity.

liquid gasoline isn't a problem. It is the vapor that becomes explosive. Your gas can should be sealed and you won't have a problem.

Plastic on the composite bed - likely to slide around a lot. Chance of tipping and spilling? I really don’t know if just the ‘sliding around’ will be a static issue.

BTW - Never fill gas cans (plastic or metal) in the bed of the truck. [ without a static line ] Always place containers on the ground, to fill, and then back in your truck or trailer bed.

    History information:

The "self-sealing fuel tanks" on American WWII airplanes, as opposed to the full-metal tanks on the Japanese Zero, contain a liner that collapses when gas is consumed. That means less fumes and less "boom" when a bullet passed through the tanks. Japanese Zero would burn easier because of more fumes when a bullet passed through the tank.

EDIT: Not judging or opening WWII debates, just stating the fact.

It is safe to transport. Hopefully you have a bed mat to keep the container from sliding around.

The danger would be from igniting fumes due to static electricity. Not from carrying it around.

    - Ground yourself to eliminate static electricity before opening a container with fuel in it. (Touch the pump, a bollard, or the ground) All containers will expel some gas fumes under a bit of pressure especially when in warm weather. This is likely the time of greatest exposure.

    :nuclear:

Put the container on the ground (and not on the plastic bed) when filling. This will avoid leaking into your bed - BUT this also provides a electrical ground. Put the container in your bed after capping it.

I tend to use any fuel stored in containers as soon as possible. I pour in the truck's fuel tank as soon as I am able. I'd rather NOT carry extra explosive fluids outside the fuel tank.

How does the bed mat work into this.

Helps keep the fuel cans from sliding around on the slick bed.

OP - you’re more likely to get t-boned by a semi truck on the way home from work today than to have a plastic fuel can catch fire in the bed of the truck at any point, ever. It’s not something I’d spend any time worrying about.

That is just insane. Bag rupture, especially at the weaker seams, would turn the trunk into an open pool of gasoline.

lol. I’m losing it now. That is a lot of pee, just a bag would be hard to fill. I’d rather have the gas in my trunk.

No, no, he's got a point. It might take me a couple of weeks, but I could probably do it. I don't do drugs, so there might be a play here . . .

Are referring to the piss being a commodity? I hear that once it loses temp, it doesn’t test properly.
