Lmao to this, many many many in fact most of us have zero issues and there are plenty of these trucks going 200k plus miles no issues but regular maintenance. There’s a reason they were so damn popular and so many sold. The verdict is still out on the 4th gen and there’s already issues like cracked ac evaps, terrible gaps and tailgate issues (saw you also had to “fix” yours), issues with the infotainment system, fuel gauge and increasing number of those noticing harsh transmission shifts and rev hangs (you also mentioned having this issue on the other forum) and some eventually needing the transmission replaced. Not saying 4th gen isn’t gonna be solid but let’s not kid ourselves as the 3rd gen being what you claim as an expensive to fix and maintain “worst” truck produced “riddled with issues.”

I mean every gen had some issues but it’s comical to say the last gen was riddled with problems and expensive to maintain / fix. Doubt anyone has looked up the cost to replace the digital cluster or 14” screen, wanna talk expensive to fix (wife’s rx similar one is $10k if it goes out, we have extended factory warranty), how about that turbo come 150k.

I’ve just put oil and gas in my 2021. Gonna hit 40k miles next week. It’s been great.

    Knock on wood that continues.

I think you are right, and also pointing out what we already know about the 4th gen. The 3rd gen had many good years to build up to its excellent reputation. It wasn’t there between 16 and 19. Give Toyota similar time to take care of the initial quality niggles, like they did with the 3rd gen, and I’m sure we’ll have 3 great generations.

Awesome, at the time there were transmission issues. Glad you didn’t have them.

Not the same as the 4th gen’s, the “issues” were low fluid and logic / software which recieved a tsb. The 4th gen trans issues have been bad solenoids and loss all together. Not saying it’s just a bad early batch but not the same as some low fluid and a software fix. My 16 and 17 were great outside the hesitating issue solved by the reprogram tsb.

You are correct and my point is that given time, Toyota will fix this, like they did that. it’s all good.

Agreed, they definitely won’t hopefully let one of their flagships suffer a similar fate as the new tundra, etc. well here’s hoping or at least a course correction. I still remain a loyal customer for now.

Add the really crappy paint job on the underground models. Mine looks like complete shit when you really look closely under ideal lighting. I had to go to a Toyota authorized repair center to get it assessed for warranty claim. Still under investigation.

Maybe they are programmed with that intrusive spooky new spooky AI stuff and it's just trying to save your life and keep you from dieing for your own good? Push all the buttons you want: we know better.... I could live with that. .. But I'm 2ng gen: if the button isn't lit up: it's off.

What is this "underground model"? I heard about this and was willing to pay extra for it (it sounds like a rare option for investment potentials) and they denied it existed.

    It's not fair.

It seems that way even the “it’s a GX” and other models are proving to have just rested on their reputation. But apparently it’s still better than what some of the other brands are trying to pass off.

The 3rd gen Tacoma had thousands upon thousands of front timing cover leaks some right off the bat, engines pulled out to seal it, that was an issue right up until the very end. More and more issues with the valves not seating correctly, needing a new cylinder head, rear main seals leak like crazy on the 3rd gens I’ve seen hundreds of posts about that . Coolant bypass pipes leaking, front cab mount bushings squeaking, never was resolved by Toyota all those years, bad front strut assemblies causing squeaks, interior rattles, exterior rattles hundred if not thousands of complaints, people having to spend hundreds on tuning a brand new truck. Driveline vibration issues out the wazoo. Howling rear diffs. Yeah Is it a decent truck I guess is it anything special , no.

I’d like to see the data for this, I’ve had 6 3rd gen’s none of them had a timing cover leak or coolant bypass leak. I’ve maybe seen one post about front cab mount bushings. Not a single thing after that you listed is an “expensive” repair or anything different we are seeing from this oh so improved 4th gen. Still plenty of rattles, squeaks, weird noises, driveline vibes, etc. but you know what one truck has that the other doesn’t out of the 2 million sold? An established history of a far majority of happy owners with zero issues and plenty of trouble free miles. We are what 5 months into the new gen and maybe 100k trucks and already seeing issues that aren’t squeaks and rattles. But it sounds like you are convinced your truck is fast superior guess we’ll see in time but you are kidding yourself trying to paint it as a some unreliable problem ridden vehicle. Pretty sure the forums would have been painted with all these issues you are alluding to we all have had.
