Originally I was going to have the back cut off and have a new frame built along with their shock towers, local shop does it. Still actually may.

Hitting your head on the cage is only half the reason for a helmet. The other half is for hans device attachment. Which is equally important

I had a bolt in bed cage I made and my frame was cracking right in front of the front bed mounts where it bolted in, and the frame was all warped. A combination of rust and crazy stress from the stiffer rear end. Just be mindful of that, because without a cage it's really trying to rip the back of the truck off.

2JZ would be very cool, I think there's some guy on YouTube that just put one in his 5g 4runner.

Just can't beat an ls for affordability, ease, and availability. But if you want to do something different, but still has a huge aftermarket following, the 2jz is a good choice.

Supercharger on a 4.0l is such a waste of money. I've driven a few and not only the cost of the sc itself, but then the cost of premium fuel on top of that is crazy, especially where I live. And the few I've driven barely felt like they had any more power than na. Just regearing makes a bigger difference. All the sc guys on here can tell me how wrong I am, but I've driven 2 or three different ones, including a full cage/long travel taco with a SC and it just wasn't it.

Either way, the stock Tacoma power is pitiful, you really can't drive a caged Lt, linked truck properly with it, constant under steer because you can't just get on the throttle to rotate the truck through a corner, and it's hard to keep the RPMS up in the power band to keep the front up in whoops. Not to mention passing semis up hills at 6000rpm just screaming trying to get by haha

I feel like the superchargers do a good job personally. 80hp is 80hp. Personally I just come from a background of turbos. I know the 1GR could handle it. But the question is how much until things get expensive.

I can get a 2jz with harness and pcm for 4k to my door. A t56 magnum with clutch and adapter for another 3k. Then a nice turbo setup with support for 4-5. So all in on roughly an 800hp build for around 12-15k.

Downfall is, I wouldn’t even entertain keeping 4wd at that point. But to be honest. I could have no hands and still count how many times I used 4 so far this year. The only thing I would actually miss is 2wd low range.

    Yes
    3 tings :

    1. 2JZ yes ! DOOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIIT but...
    2. Why not fully build the 1gr ? You can double the hp of a 1gr and keep everything attached to it for far less $
    3. Why don't you drive in 4wd ? 4wd isn't just to get you out of or through trouble it puts more power to the ground and gives you a lot more control and speed particularly in and out of corners

I’m not sure of the ROI for building the 1GR to handle good power, plus the support isn’t spectacular. Not saying no, but also not convinced it’s the best application for big boost. 2JZ is known to support 700+ whp on stock bottom end reliably. We all know how legendary it is.

As for 4wd, I personally don’t like running in it. Much of our terrain is hard pack and I don’t care for the way it takes corners in 4. I feel as though I have more control in 2 being able to kick the rear. Maybe I just haven’t spent enough time getting used to it.

    Explain like I'm 5:

Triangulated vs parallel 4-link rear suspension setups — what’s the big difference other than requiring a panhard bar for the parallel? Is the risk of binding with the panhard/parallel links significant with big travel numbers? I feel like a number of factory vehicles [TRX, jeeps, etc] come with parallel links and was just curious.

Parallel is going to give more “at speed” control/compliance. Triangulated is going to be the strongest option and offer more articulation. Both will require a fuel cell.

3 link with pan hard can be done with the factory tank while offering similar benefits.

The only real downfall of having a pan hard is they do create a side to side swing of the axle through the range of travel. Not really too big of a deal provided proper geometry is a thing.

Rather take 350hp balls to the wall than baby a 700hp truck on 35s-37s.

Why would it have to be babied? Isn’t that what supporting mods are for?

Oh trust me, I know all about it. My dad’s 1,000hp blower car is not spectacular in traffic. But I try to avoid traffic anyways so….

I guess if your pockets are bottomless it wouldn't matter if that shoe horned engine swap had an issue.

    And that's a wrap.

Spring perches are just tacked into place incase anything changes when the suspension gets fully cycled later on.
