Whitetail Disposal almost bought my mom a new car this morning and their garbage truck driver was so rude to me, despite the near-accident being his fault, that I called up Whitetail and reported him; I got his license plate number too!

I stopped at CVS to buy some cheap wireless earbuds before picking up Amanda and going to work. I was in my mom's 2013 Nissan Murano, because my Tacoma is still in the shop. The red line/arrow shows my approximate path of travel, the red X marks my location at the time the garbage truck almost struck my mom's car, and the blue X marks the approximately location where the garbage truck was PARKED...

So, a garbage truck is way too big to fit in a typical parking space, and there was absolutely no indication that the truck was about to move. It appeared to be parked. Because the space between the curb and the garbage truck was narrow, I took it slow and just kind of crept along. All of a sudden, the garbage truck's front wheels cut to the right and the driver started to pull out, and if I hadn't laid on the horn, my mom's car probably would have gotten totaled. It's 2013 Nissan Murano SV AWD with less than 50K miles and every option except a sunroof and leather seats, but it probably would have been totaled based on the age, especially if the airbags deployed!

I just laid on the horn and the truck stopped to let me by. The garbage truck was one of those cabover rigs that has a second steering wheel on the right, and there was a dumbfounded Hispanic guy in the passenger seat who I initially thought was the driver for some reason; I glared at him and gave him the finger. I then proceeded to park the Murano and got out just as the garbage truck drove past. The actual driver was this huge black guy, and the Hispanic guy was his partner who got out of the truck and collected the trash.

The driver started swearing at me, and I lost count of how many times he said "fuck". He basically blamed me for almost getting hit by him; I would have stopped if I even suspected the truck was about to move, but he didn't have a signal on or anything. I was just creeping past because my path was so narrow, and he decided to pull out. Back in 1997, my uncle's brand new Ford Expedition was sliced open like a sardine can by a garbage truck, but it wasn't totaled; I don't think a Murano would have fared as well.

I was planning to call Whitetail to begin with, but I didn't have anything other than truck's location and a description of the driver at first; I left CVS, which is within walking distance of Amanda's house, and saw the same garbage truck picking up trash. This was the truck for my girlfriend's neighborhood!

I came to a stop, zoomed in on the license plate with my phone, and discreetly took a picture; I then called Whitetail and ended up talking to this really nice woman who said that the driver was 100% to blame and should have been more careful since he was in such a large vehicle. That conversation ended on a positive note and I took Amanda to work.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't drive complacently in a commercial vehicle, almost total my vehicle in the process, and then flip out on me as if it's my fault!

Came off a trail after off-roading truck hard. Started making that whining noise and progressively got louder as I drove truck. I was 7 hours from home. Tranny started overheating about 3/4 way home. Let it sit for a while and drive rest of way. Dropped tranny and found the pics I put in here. Ordered new tranny. A pump and converter was about the same price so it just didn’t make sense.

How can you tell if the tranny is overheating? My truck doesn’t have any warning lights for that…

is the A/T Temp light on the gauge cluster just a Zombie indicator light on these 2TR-FE with auto tranny? meaning it would not ever light up?
i pushed my relatives '11 single cab 4x4 (97k miles) hard on the freeway for about 100 miles the other day in 105 degree temps to see what the level of ATF fluid on the checkstick at near-Max thermal expansion
... it indicated it was Quite a bit Overfilled... at least an inch over the top F hash marking on the checkstick

should i try to adjust the level pulling the drain plug or is that in an acceptable range for the hot conditions it was subjected to :notsure:

    I don’t know
Blowing the horn was good enough man.
Giving the finger wasn't a wise move.

Just trying to help you bud. There are people out there that have less to lose than you do.
People often get defensive when they make a mistake. Flipping them off only makes it worse.

Stay calm. Carry on. Go home safe with you and the car in one piece.

The difference is night and day! The donor truck was a 2010 like mine, and as stated before, it only had 22K miles. All my mechanic new was that the truck was totaled, and nothing more; I would really like to know if this was a ridiculously low-mileage truck that got totaled recently, or if it got totaled over a decade ago and was sitting this whole time. Based on how popular all generations of Tacoma are, and how in-demand their parts will be as a result, I would guess that this was another 5-lug that had really low miles and was in great shape. However, I’m thinking the impact was severe enough to tweak the frame or it was in a rollover, with airbag deployment as a result; I guarantee you that any 2010 Taco would be an automatic total today if the curtain/seat airbags went off, regardless of how bad the physical damage was…

I absolutely refuse to sell the truck at this point and will put a new engine in it before I have payments!
