Dealer recommends flushing out and replacing coolant as service at 92K. Is it necessary for $235? Is this easy to do?

It's getting the plugs in the water jacket (PITA). Safe disposal of the old coolant is a trip to the recycle center.

It is necessary. Coolant becomes acidic as it ages. $235 Doesn't sound too bad I guess. The flushing machine they use does 95% of the work

Get a quote from a reliable independent shop.

It needs to be done. It's not hard. But that price seems unfriendly if you need someone to do it for you.

That sounds reasonable to me, especially because the dealer is going to be flushing it correct, and using Toyota genuine coolant? Owners booklet says 100k miles so your right in that time frame to get the service done.

i would just drain the radiator via petcock wait then refill with Toyota coolant and be done. Should cost you 40 dollars for 2 gallons of toyota coolant and 45min / 1hr of your time. Nevermind Water Wetter isnt compatible with toyota coolant

“Easy” is subjective. It depends on your DIY skills and motivation. As noted above, it is likely that your local environmental controls authority requires that you collect the old coolant for proper disposal.

For $235 I'll bet they're just going to drain and fill the radiator :anonymous:

I do have a bottle of WW in the truck back door cup holder before I saw the post about compatibility. And I didn't want to give advice that might be detrimental to someone's truck which is why I changed it. I'm not willing to practice on my truck but I may pour some WW and red coolant in a water bottle to test
