From the Dealer you get a wide range of viscosity you can use.

Get a longish vacuum tube. Place one end in your ear and move the other end around the engine bay to find exactly where it's coming from.

In my 2023 manual Toyota says you can use a higher viscosity oil 5W 20 but you must replace with OW 20 next oil change.

“If SAE OW-20 is not available, SAE 5W-20 oil may be used. However, it must be replaced
with SAE OW-20 at the next oil change.” IMG_3166.png

Of course, that's the US owner's manual. Mexico owner's manual and the factory service manual say up to 40 weight is okay, provided you don't use 10W-30 or 15W-40 below specified minimum temps.

0w-20 is only used in the US for EPA requirements. In other countries they run much thicker oils.

My truck is still covered under factory warranty I may consider that when my warranty runs out.

I understand but I don’t want someone that changes there own oil in the US to get the wrong idea and use a higher viscosity oil while the truck is covered under warranty.

Fair enough. For what it's worth, I have only used higher viscosity oil since I got the truck. Nothing bad has come of it. I'd be surprised if anybody tested anything if it was brought to the dealer for an engine problem under warranty. I do occasionally have whatever tick this thread is talking about, and don't know why but all runs well. I consistently drive mine at very high rpm and just thought higher viscosity makes more sense, especially when you consider most of the 20 weight oil craze is strictly CAFE driven. I don't even run synthetic, although pretty much anything on the shelf has at least some sort of synthetic blend base to it these days.

I personally hate the 20WT benchmark in the US just for the sake of maybeeee squeezing 1/2 mpg here and there.

No high revving motor in hot climates should run any sort of 20WT oil.

Motorcraft synthetic blend for a while but now Valvoline daily protection. 10W-30.

I agree! I’m just a little paranoid going against manufacturer’s recommendations while my truck is under warranty. I have alway used a higher viscosity oil in my high performance engines in lieu of small and big block Chevy engines during the summer months and dropped back to the lower viscosity when the temp drops in the winter.

I run whatever the dealer puts in my 23, but I most likely won't own the truck past 60k. If I were to be keeping it long term, I would be running 5 or 10w30.

My 2020 is at 37k and makes the exact same noise intermittently. It's most noticeable at idle. Dealer told me it was nothing to be worried about but I am not 100% convinced. I sent an oil sample out for analysis and am waiting on the results to see if there is any excessive wear.

I heard mine a few random times around 35 or 36K (I remember it specifically on a day I washed the truck and that time frame was at that mileage). I've heard it a few other times too. Always at idle. Haven't really heard it in a while.

That’s initially what I thought but his is an OR……plus I have the vacuum pump noise in mine, it’s more of a clanging noise not a tick.

OP, change the oil and replace a quart with Marvel Mystery Oil. If it is a lifter tick, you may be pleasantly surprised.
