Blues and blacks at AOAA... hmmm.... (wonders what he needs to between now and then to avoid damage short of sending drivetrain components to ECGS for lockers...)

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be making AOAA this year, because I've book the Pilgrimage in VT the weekend before.

In my defense, every single issue I've had on the truck has one common denominator
Sliders and skids got us through last time, your wheelbase is also a huge plus. I also won't discourage you from locking the gx :anonymous:

Now that I'm home from work and have a moment, what's everyone thinking for food this year?

Mouth still waters over that rib roast from last year:drool:

I’m doing Carne adovada ( pork chili ish) again this year. I missed it last year and was sad at breakfast.

Meat wise we did a pig, a whole ribeye, and a turkey which I didn't supervise drunk Danny well enough and he dried out. The pig works pretty well for the schedule because you can safely cook it for 30 hours and nothing bad happens, so we don't have to store it. However! If anyone has any suggestions we'll smoke anything (meat, not drug).

Pig was a winner last year! I’m happy to throw in to do it again. Not sure if doing a few picnic shoulders would be easier for y’all. Less time and easier to carve up. Either way, I’m happy to eat whatever you’re smoking.

Chicken Mozambique from me this year.

Forget wheeling I'm happy to come for the food.

I think I'll let that post speak for me as well.

Yeah the turkey takes a lot less time. It wasn't ruined but it was dry. Spatchcock and throw it on later. They're pretty forgiving too as long as you don't overdo them. The pigs are just forgiving on being overdone.

The pig is oddly easier because as mentioned we don't have to really do anything to it once we light the fire. We run it hot for an hour to get things out of the danger zone then run the smoker around ~180 all night, then back to 225 when the beer starts and keep it there till we serve. Smaller cuts are easier to damage.

    Definitely appreciate the praise.

I pulled the turkey an hour before we were to eat and wrapped it but then I took a bit of a nap and he threw it back on and cranked the smoker up. I'm still butthurt because it was perfect when I pulled it.

I will provide the pig again this year. Anyone that wants to help with it will have the money donated to the Danville SPCA. Any other meat or smoker cooked stuffs are welcome. I think I have another turkey in the freezer from work.

If someone wants to bring stuff to cook for a smaller Friday event that's also fine, I got a group site this year so we can just chill at the smoker.

I ran some blues/blacks with my first 4Runner back at the first few TW AOAA Fall Bash events :) & holy shit this was 7 years ago already!

AOAA "Last Fall Bash" trip report

Also that T4R was unlocked and only had sliders and a front bumper, should be in much better shape this time around.

    Oh damn!

Something ironic about the benefit of a pig roast being the SPCA

TBD I'll think on that one I have some ideas. Time and temp for smoker on Friday?
