    Hey everyone,

I take my truck onto the beach often to go fishing and on the weekends don’t want the hassle of waiting in lines at the fill up station.

I am looking to invest in an air compressor. I have seen some nice ones that fit under the hood of the truck or in the bed. I do not need anything fancy but I definitely want something that is going to fill my tires quick. I currently run stock tires on the truck (2019 SR5 4 door short bed) but will definitely upgrade to something bigger ( probably the biggest I can go before needing a lift).

Any and all suggestions and ideas welcomed.

    Thanks everyone!

    Tight lines!

I bought an Astro AI off Amazon. Actually on sale now for $118. Faster than a gas station. From 16lbs to 38lbs in 2-3 min per tire on my wrangler. Best one I've owned.

you could always go with something like the 1 gallon fortress compressor from harbor freight. won't fit under the hood but it will run on the 120v outlet and probably work as fast as most common 12v compressors.

I had 3 harbor freight compressors in both the regular and heavy duty. Burned out all 3 on one trip to the beach each. Better to just pay and get a good one. I carry a few small garbage ones just in case. The one I have now is a monster.

Prices for dual air compressors have come down a bit. Check out Roughcountry twin-air-compressor model rs205, $349.95. Or check out the GELUOXI twin compressor on Azon. ALOT cheaper than the ARB one.

If you want to pony up to a quality rig, the VIAIR 450P-RV is a good choice. On sale @Amazon. Only thing I don’t like about mine is that it gets HOT. I guess they all do to some extent.

I have the smittybuilt version of this same compressor. Best CFM/$ I found at the time. Plugs directly to the battery  and comes with a taco-suitable long air hose. It is hefty, but cranks out lots of CFM and fits nicely behind the rear seat.

I seem to take it with me only on more 'serious' trips due to the weight - but it is fast to fill a tire. I try to stay light on the daily - do not want a hard install.

I carry a super light 12v outlet compressor on the daily for emergency use (stored in the same rear sear slot), and will use a ryobi 18v compressor as an easy source of air and as a back-up on those 'serious' trips.

    - I have a 2021 taco though. I do not know if there are better ones - or if it will even work on a 2019. o_O

My Viair 88p fits neatly behind the read seat, 12 V clips onto battery and has long hose. Just saying ... if your current "emergency unit" goes to visit the angels.

EDIT: Sorry ... "under the driver-side back seat". Behind the rear seat is a CB radio, NOCO GB40 and my folding saw.

Viair 300 is what I got. I think the 88p is much better for stock tires. If you have larger tires and/or need to air up A LOT, a bigger one would be better suited.

My viair 300 I've had hardwired in my engine bay for I think 2 years now, its holding strong. I've had it for 4 years total I think, love it!

My buddy just has a 12v/battery-powered dewalt compress and it works, but it definitely takes a long time to air up. I can do all 4 of my 33s in about the time it takes him to do 1 slightly larger than stock tire with the dewalt.

If I followed the wise (o_O) advice of this forum and went with CMC/37s/6-inch-lift ... the 88P would probably auto-shutdown after 2 tires.

This is cheap, down and dirty, digital read out, stops automatically at the pressure you want.

12volt as well as 110 volt. Works great with plug in the bed.

I do a lot of four wheeling in the sand on beaches, I also have water tank in the bed called a waterport, 4 gallon reservoir mounted in the back. This thing pressurizes the tires fast and easily pressurizes the water port.

The VIAIR 88P is light and small... (similar to the unit I carry always). I would consider it when mine goes... - I've had it for a decade or so... so it may come to that!

The volume the 88P moves is 88 L/min. The difference with my 'serious' unit I pointed out is that the above moves 200 L/Min. so well more than 2x as much.

ARB Twin or TJM Twin. There's also companies selling knockoff ARBs now, I think one of them is Up Down Air.

My ARB Twin takes about 1.5min to fill my 35s from 18 to 33psi. It can fill it faster but the limiting factor is the restriction of the Schrader valve. The ARB also has a duty cycle of 100%, I've actually had it running for 30 mins straight while trying to reseat a de-beaded tire that was being ultra difficult.

I have a 40V Max 4.0 AH battery for Kobalt devices. It can run an air compressor which may or may not perform impressively. But I already had my Viair.

This! It will inflate a 32” tire from 20psi to 35psi in under 2 minutes. And I could probably air up all 4 tires 4-5 times on one charge on a 6.0ah battery
