We used oil based kilz for our entire house. It was smoked in for 40 years

Ironically this is the 3rd time priming/painting the ceiling in this room. 2nd time go round was oil base Kilz. I've never seen such as this in my life!

I do eventually plan on gutting the entire bathroom, but time and financials are just not there yet.

Probably not worth it if you plan on gutting it but if you wanted to cover up the ceiling without the drywall dust you could use Armstrong ceiling planks. I used them to cover up an ugly heavy popcorn ceiling.

Did this in a weekend. Screw these tracks through the the ceiling into the joists.

Then these clips snap on the tracks and slide into the grove of the plank. It’s a bead board style ceiling. No nails next board slides into that groove and clip and repeat until the end

Only had to nail a trim/molding around the edge. Not into the ceiling but into the wall. Have to leave a 1/2 gap around the whole ceiling so this covers it up. I just used two different size flat trim.

Looks yellow in the last two pictures but it’s a satin white. It is paintable though.

When l got a new roof put on the house the guy told me to spray hair spray on the ceiling spots before the primer, it actually worked. That Bin Primer is definitely potent stuff, will make your eyes water.

That's a very normal way to connect across multiple switches in the same box... Saves time not needing to make a splice.

The problem with most remodels is that most folks won't do a complete demo. Spend all this money trying to cover up the problem. Most demos last about 4hrs in a single room. I know getting things like this done is cost prohibitive. So, they come up with cleaver ideas to fix it. IMO do it right or don't do it at all.

Yea, I've seen it before, just not my preference. Wouldn't be bad if the screw wasn't loose. How it wasn't arcing was beyond me o_O

Got a quote for a cabinet reskin today + new quartz countertops + backsplash. Nothing changes from the exact layout that’s there now. $23k. Seems crazy to update some color, add new doors and upgrade counters. Thoughts?

Have you thought about a little paint? You can buy a lot of paint for $23K.

I think paint, new backspash, and new counters would do the trick.
