So this is an odd question, can I use a speaker from a guitar amp as a speaker in my truck? Build a box and put a car amp in front of it? I have a 12" Eminence speaker kicking around here somewhere.

might not sound the best... guitar speakers are pretty midrange heavy.

Ya this...to OP, plug a media device into your amp to play music. If that suits your tonal appetite then go for it.

I don't think it'll tickle your fancy tho

Dood, you got coin to burn...you'll do well here. Everyone will luv spending your money lol.

Questions....how long have you been in the "cannot play but can put in a couple chords" space? Are you looking for wall art or seriously want to invest time and learn how to express yourself through the instrument? Because that's serious dough for a guitar if it's the former, and serious dough to puzzle out the latter as a beginner.

I'm guilty of the former for sure, I have 2 PRS guitars for that reason...but i play them religiously. I also have a nice Boston Whaler that hangs in my boat lift out back that I look at religiously but rarely use. Sometimes things are a fortunate investment.

I guess my point is, that's alot of dough for a art piece that IMHO isn't worth it, but could be as a beginner stick but man you gotta believe you're go through with it. Or you have discretionary dollars at your disposal, and do what digs you.

    Let us know!

I’d love to commit to learning but I’d like to do it on a nice guitar. I currently have a very low end Jackson that I basically gifted to my son.

Well, there are very many quality guitars in the sub 1k range to be certain. Your guitar should be your muse, not your only muse perhaps...but one of them. You'll know when you pick it up to play it.

Guitars with a double locking tremolo are great if you’re playing some Vai / Van Halen tremolo work, but are a big change from simply grabbing a tuner on the headstock and retuning or putting on a new e string if you break one. First you’ll have to use fine tuners on the bridge to tune a few cents in each direction, and if you lose the amount of adjustment needed to bring a string to pitch, you have to remove the locking nut and tune with the tuning peg and then retune it with the fine tuner one the locking nut is torqued down again. You have to do that procedure plus potentially cut the ends off of strings to replace a broken string and then tune it in a different way then a hard tail or decked tremolo (only can push down, not pull up on the trem arm like a Mexican strat). How do I know all this? I accidentally bought / traded for (can’t remember) a double locking trem Ibanez for my third guitar ever 20 years ago and had to learn how to set it up and maintain it which quickly made me trade / sell it because I had to spend more time wrenching on it than playing music (or at least more time than I wanted to spend wrenching on it). That said tons of guys and gals use them but not often in garage band level playing (if you break a string you’ll be making the band wait a bit longer than a hard tail / decked / floating non-locking trem to change it) without a backup guitar of some kind. Pros have guitar techs and a cabinet full of backups typically. Anyway compared to a vehicle like a truck, they are way less complex, however they are significantly more complex than a hard tail or even non-locking decked or floating trem guitar. I am not a fan of reverse headstock guitars, but it’s just something to get used to.

If you like the ESP guitars and want to save a little money, look for any LTD (brand name for non-Japanese or American made ESP) from Korea (typically the 1000 series guitars). Korean guitars are the best bang for the buck in price vs. playability and I’ve owned 10+ Korean made guitars with 90% setup and rip success rate (and I compare this to US Fenders and Music Man guitars I’ve had).

ESP makes awesome non-trem (NT) models. The price tiers are $4-5k American $1.5-3k Japanese and sub $1k LTD Korean and Indonesian.

One of my favorite guitars I’ve owned is an Indonesian LTD 350NT that had the lowest action without buzz of any guitar I had. Some day I’ll get it going again - it just had a low 2nd fret that made a D chord impossible to play and I had to play them occasionally so it got put in a case and sidelined.

Check this one on reverb out - same as my 350NT but nicer spec’d and Korean made. The W in the serial number is for the factory it was built in. It’s the same factory as many Korean made Schecters.

That looks like a nice guitar. Has some scratches but, not too bad. I’d probably want to try it out prior to purchasing so…buying online is difficult for me. Thanks for the info…anything you can add to help me choose one is appreciated.

Good point, if you're in a region without many guitar / music shops, that can be difficult. From a lot of videos on YouTube and some personal experience (years ago), Sweetwater.com has a really good return policy for 30 (?) days and generally gives instruments a once over before sending them out. You can also search local classifieds and be upfront about wanting to make sure you even like how a guitar plays before considering purchasing it.

If your budget is sub $2k ish there are a few options you might like on there.

Here's the latest MH-1000NT. Unfortunately it has a reverse headstock (I know some guys absolutely swear by them, so it's all a preference thing).

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MH1000CBst--esp-ltd-mh-1000-electric-guitar-charcoal-burst

A similar axe with a regular headstock is this tele body style LTD (I know the color and body style aren't close at all to the axe you posted)

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LECNT87T--esp-ltd-eclipse-87-nt-turquoise

And if the camo was part of the appeal, there's an James Hetfield "Snakebyte" explorer style bodied hard tail LTD in camo

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...ield-signature-snakebyte-electric-guitar-camo

Unsolicited non-LTD recommendation would be a made in Korea Schecter C-1. The Blackjack series is pretty low-pro and has stainless steel frets and a solid pickup choice.

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/C1BkJkGB--schecter-c-1-blackjack-electric-guitar-black-gloss

Another is EBMM on the lower end of their price range. I had one 15 years ago, a JP6, which at $1500 was the most expensive guitar I've ever had but they have a great trem system.

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...ctric-guitar-majora-purple?cond=CutHHJRMPrpd2

One more is a guitar I've been curious about

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/de...yle-1-hss-ht-m-electric-guitar-platinum-pearl

At the end of the day, a guitar that inspires you to pick up and play is better than a theoretically perfect guitar that you aren't motivated to play.

If you have a working Jackson sitting around and are looking for some equipment to get you stoked, consider checking out Line 6 Helix and what it can do. Effects processing into your stereo speakers or headphones is pretty close to being a replacement for having nearly infinite cabs and amps nowadays. If you don't have modern digital effects, that alone might be worth spending on as it might go a lot farther in terms of changing the game on having some equipment to mess around with. The input has an impedance circuit so you don't need a DI to plug directly into it. Or maybe get a new guitar and new effects lol.

Demo list of some heavy Helix tones:

Setup vid for the Helix metal preset I'm currently running (boring but shows you how it works and this is a good tone)
