Did you see the 4runner that did baja? It had PLENTY of work done to it, just as much as a tacoma would need to participate in it. Luck is part of finishing it as well, as the 4runner team was because it was flipped and still managed to finish.

However a notable difference with the new 4runner is it has a larger rear diff, so I would say that toyota was aware of the problem and addressed it when they designed the new vehicle.

    lol

More likely: It got a new diff because it's a heavier vehicle. I'm thinking when Toyo designed the gen 2 Tacoma it was "The 8-inch rear is near it's limit with this design, but it's still in spec, and we already have a bunch and the tooling to manufacture 'em, so we'll use it."

Which is why they don't explode if used as a DD but grenade with the slightest bit of pusharound.

If Toyota were to take some interest and look at the parts, they would probably find something out of spec, like heat treat or material. They're probably afraid of what they might find.

TOYOTA: You are familiar with the Japanese term: Genchi Genbutsu. It's a core component and value of the TPS and The Toyota Way. Roughly translated, it means "Go and see". This needs to be put into practice here. Pics sent from a dealer do not meet this criteria. Fix your customer's axle, then fix the dealership.

backpacker4u82, do you have a consumer oriented investigative TV news team in your area?

This is the type that can get the apartment deposit back from a shady landlord or get something else done "for the little guy" in full public view.

Most business seem to cave when really bad publicity can be seen by thousands.

    Might be worth a call.

Where is this face book page that Toyota commented on. I'd like to see what these bone heads are doing now.

Yeah, i'm not going to argue with someone that hasn't seen either vehicle except in a magazine article or on the web. Ive seen both trucks up close and in person and know both parties very well.

Good luck to the guy who is having the issues with his truck and if I can be of any assistance please let me know.

The 4runner is not and has never been a uni body vehicle. It is built on the same 120 platform as the Tacoma and Fj Cruiser.

Reinforced body on frame construction. Know what your talking about before you start giving advise!

Good for you man. IF this was to happen to my truck I know that I would fight it. One quick question and maybe its been talked about and I missed it. Do you have anything modded on the truck like a lift or large tires or something that they could use as reason to deny the repair?

Why is it only a problem with the TRD Offroad?
This thread makes me ashamed to own nothing but Toyota trucks in my past, both Tacomas and my Tundra....

    NO OP did not..

BS even if they do. Ford and Chevy will honor warrenty work for a slight lift and bigger tires. If Toyota chooses to use this lame excuse on anyone, lawyer up. Yeah...for the price we pay and the little warranty they do offer, it should be hands down ok.

Oh and my rims on my 08 sport that are bubbling and the flaking off..55k miles, 2 years old. DENIED by Toyota Warranty?? WTF its your crappy rims you offer that failed...HELLO

    Ford ECO boost anyone?

Good luck. Arbitration is your friend here and you should win this one pretty easily. I've seen this fight with GM, Ford, Hyundai and Kia. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon to have to do this today.

They're betting on their deep pockets and you needing your vehicle back. Fight them as long as you can with all means available to you.

Just got my sport rims replaced a few months ago. Had to fight with them though. They only wanted to have somebody come out to refinish them. I explained to them about the hub erosion noted by the tire shop and then they replaced them.
I know the OP's is more of a mechanical failure but same kind of thing. They try to get away with covering as little as possible unless you are willing to fight for it. OP - good for you, keep it going. If people didn't do anything wrong than they shouldn't be denied warranty coverage.

I respectfully disagree. I didn't buy an image. My truck has 4x4, decent ground clearance, a locking rear differential and electronic traction systems specifically geared toward offroad peroformance
I have taken my truck offroad, and I am plenty impressed with its capabilities, even in stock form.

The only people buying an image are the people buying prerunners or 2wd "Rugged Trails". That is an image vehicle marketed to posers who dont need the performance anyways.

Toyota markets trucks without 'the goods', but only to the idiots who want the look but not the function. They still sell REAL trucks to those of us who want em

I'm disappointed with Toyota myself.... hope things work out. I've been a Toyota loyalist & I'm on my 5th P'up....any problems I've had so far I've been lucky with but I do not trust them too much & I can no longer do any work on my truck because they have made them too complicated. I have other friends who have defected over to Nissan trucks but like it was mentioned earlier......what options are out there ? Sadly ... I will be looking at the 'others' when it comes for a new truck.
