Don't know why Indiana doesn't switch to sand or other stuff. My daughter lives in Montana and drives a Corolla. Sand works perfectly fine for them.

After driving around in Wyoming in the winter visiting my brother I have the same thought. Snow tires and sand would be amazing, I hate the salt here.

I use fluid film and I do exactly what kidsmoke mentioned. Give it a good wash with a pressure washer to get all the dirt off, let it dry, then hit it with fluid film. I make sure to get inside the frame rails really good especially where its boxed in on the front. Anything I can do to keep my frame a little while longer is a plus. I usually buy a box (6 cans) of fluid film a year and coat everything I can.

Hey guys, I’m up in the South Bend area. Not too many Toyota enthusiasts up this way compared to where I moved from (Utah) but I love driving mine around town. Gimme a wave if you see me.

Tom Woods tried a bait and switch on me on a new car purchase. I wanted a GR Corolla they had coming in. I am in Evansville. I'm retired from Toyota, so entitled to employee pricing.

I called them and they said employee price, but I had to come to the premises to make a downpayment. Other dealers take CC over the phone. 4 hour drive for me, but these GRCs are hard to get. When I got there, they said "our General Manager had second thoughts about giving employee pricing on a car that's in such strong demand/short supply". Sure.

Then, they produced a paper for me to sign saying I understood that any downpayment was nonrefundable. Indiana law requires the return of downpayment on new cars if no deal is made.

Needless to say, I wasted 8 hours of travel time. Got lucky and one became available only an hour from home and employee pricing was honored.

This sounds more the dealer experience I'm accustomed to, and why I haven't bought a car from a new car dealer in 30 years. Sorry to hear that happened. Glad you scored! those GRC's are sweet.

I'm around South Bend in my Tacoma about once a month. Also a 2.5, debadged and rollin' on faux Beadlocks. Also constantly catching flack in the Hoosier state for not driving a 'real truck'. Bite me. I'll happily out truck your truck with my truck.

Ill bet our tacomas do more work than all the diesel trucks with ugly stretched tires around here in Indiana any day!

I have one of those "real trucks": 2002 Ram 2500 diesel 4x4. I love it for pulling my 18' trailer with heavy loads. I even enjoy the occasional unloaded drive. Rides nice for 3/4 ton and love the diesel sound.

But... 90% of my truck driving is my 95 ext cab 4x4 Taco. Pull my 10' trailer with all sorts of <1500lb loads. I have a fiberglass ARE bed topper so it even hauls on rainy days to grocery so the new car I referred to above gets to stay inside. It's like a Swiss Army knife of trucks.

I'm also in the south bend area, I picked my truck up in Kentucky last January. Just trying to get away from the salt!

Ryan where did you find that? They have a mural wall up in Niles near wonderlandMessenger_creation_684113423531948.jpg

Good luck avoiding the salt! I did my annual Fluid Film ritual a couple weeks ago, ready for another Midwest winter now.

That was at the VFW on Bristol in Elkhart.

Okay, I've never seen that! And yeah I just did my wool wax touch up, probably going to be bad this year. Are you using standard or black ff?

Just the regular. May need to try wool wax next year if the smell is any more mild … FF is awful for a few days!

I made the switch to WW several years ago. It’s thicker. I found it a bit more work to apply but more resilient.

I gotta agree with kidsmoke on this one, I did fluid fluid for a couple years on my old truck and my buddies truck. After a winter it's usuall gone from places on the frame. My ww coating was good everywhere except where it had been scraped off the frame. Surface shield is supposed to be good also, I am doing some tests this year with that. I have it split right at the front of the truck for heavy salt and road debris spray.

If you don't want to mess with spraying your Taco yourself I've been using Krown. It's similar to Fluid Film, but they professionally spray the entire undercarriage and inside all panels. I've used them a few times- specifically Kanagy Krown northeast of Fort Wayne, but they have a new location in Kokomo that might be closer for some of you. If you go to Kanagy Rufus(the owner) will take good care of you!

I appreciate the information! I looked into krown some time ago, but in the time I would invest in driving to and from ft Wayne or Kokomo, I could have my whole truck undercoated. When I get tired of doing it, I'll look into that though.

What's your truck look like? I saw a Pyrite Mica the other day that was looking good. Sounded like it had an exhaust too.

Mine is a 2.7 5spd all stock, not much going on there. But my truck is pretty clean. Obviously not a super recent Pic, but it looks identical, sometimes I have a tonneau cover. Only distinguishing features are I do not have drls, and I have a Rick and morty sticker in my back window
