1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I don’t watch much new kids shows. I mostly just play shows from my childhood, educational YouTube and videos of garbage trucks and trains. Ive also been watching all the original Disney princess movies and other classic Disney movies.

I don’t really like the new stuff and i swear half the time im watching for my self because the kids dont pay attention lol

That is a good thing.

We had a no TV on thing going on for the entire first year for Theo.

After that, we turned him to Super Simple songs and although he really likes it, I'm glad that TV in general doesn't catch his attention.

Was playing something for him recently and he wasn't even watching it, yet here I was getting these damn tunes stuck in my head

 

I be purposely playing old Disney movies i want to watch knowing kayden wont pay attention to it and then go off doing other things

 

Super simple is our go-to. She loves the monsters. Now she is singing along and mimicking hand gestures and actions.

 

Old Disney or Warner Brothers are great. Maybe some Tom and Jerry.

Id rock it. And by rock it i mean park it and never drive it for 4 years before i decide to fix something on it then never drive it again for along time

Old Disney is great especially from a nostalgia standpoint. But in watching Snow White and especially Sleeping Beauty recently with Sofia, I have to make sure she understands the world of fairy tales and how they differ from real life expectations because some of the messages that get conveyed in those old ones are pretty....antiquated to say the least.

I mean in both Snow White and Sleeping Beauty the princesses hopes and dreams hinge on being swept away by a random dude they don't even know and then that random dude saves both their lives by fondling their corpses lol. But those are more extreme examples I guess from our grandparent's eras.

Aladdin, Toy Story, Beauty & The Beast (probably my favorite), Mulan, Hunchback, etc have been more fun to introduce her to for me

I had totally forgotten about Mulan until Sofia wanted to watch it the other day, that one is really good. I miss the old hand drawn animation, I wish they would do that again for some of the new movies. I guess the last one was The Princess and the Frog (2008?) which I hadn't ever seen until recently, that one was good too

 

Haven’t heard of any damage yet from Snyder, TX (closer to where it originated). My coworker that lives across town from me said he had stuff moving in his house. That wasn’t the case for me.

 

Ah yes the how to be a gold digger era of Disney.

I think Mulan is on the top of my list with Toy story and Monster inc.
