I got no other option lol. USMC spoiled my ass with 14 of 16 years on the west coast.

I’ve been down in SoCal the last five years which is unheard of :anonymous:

In regards to the EcoGuard; I have a mostly hate relationship with Fastenal because of how they jack my employer around with unapproved substitutions of manufacturer specific parts where I work. I design products/tools for outdoor farming and construction use, and make all efforts to ensure Fastenal is not a supply option, but unfortunately one of the sourcing group folks is all but in bed with them because they are easy....

However, the EcoGuard coated fasteners are actually very good at preventing environmental induced hydrogen embrittlement.. i.e, the heads of the bolts won't magically pop off under minor loads in a few years when exposed to the elements. Most of the HE failures are due to poor processing of 10.9 steel with zinc plating. My employer took about a $1M hit over a couple of year period due to poorly processed chineseium Fastenal fasteners popping heads seemingly at random resulting in fuel leaks and sprays.

Using 8.8 grade fasteners with zinc plating are generally not subject to HE issues and the EcoGuard sometimes sold under other fancy names do very well also with 8.8 or 10.9 grade steel.
    https://www.asc-es.com/resource/EcoGuard+Specifications

My opinion is 8.8 grade fasteners (roughly grade 5) are sufficiently strong for bed stiffeners and long term, a tougher solution under the shock and vibration of daily driving and having fun.

    Thank you for that.
Can you express an opinion on those who wish to use Stainless Steel? I’m guessing 18-8 or maybe 304.

Imagine if there was indeed a custom, single-release, exclusively limited edition F bomb release with serial number?

OMG, that's WAY cooler than the one I 3D printed to see if the tail geometry worked to open bottles!

I gotta buy a 12 pack, (I'm a cider guy, not beer) to see if there is any possibility of it working.

BTW, I changed my mind, I want a serialized F-bomb Tie down instead of just plain!

    Takes too long

In short, the process requires running two CAM programs - one for engraving and one for cutting.

Need to swap out tool heads for each program.

Real talk, I did that in jest.

Unfortunately, scribing is far different than actual milling as the tool only scratches the surface of the material.

Had this been something like aluminum, the scribing would most likely be much more noticeable especially since no additional coating will be needed.

But on steel, it is only noticeable on a raw, unpainted surface. Once painted, the scribing is pretty much gone.

The only way to get something like this to stand out on steel would be to paint or powdercoat said item first, then scribe whatever you plan to put on it followed by coating it with clear.

Here you can see what I mean. Light coat of paint+primer in one and it's just barely visible.

Have to say, even manually jacking this thing it moves quite a bit more than the one I had temporarily set up.
