Wondering if anyone has done the same with a Tacoma to get 8'1" or greater interior bed length clearance for a light work truck?
Looking for 8'3" for specific equipment I do not want to trailer.

Is the bed composite materials not steel?

The bed tub is composite. Might be able to pick up another tub from a front-end wrecked truck and plastic weld/splice them together. Won't be as strong as the tub was originally without reinforcement, I'd maybe try finding a broken tub to practice with a plastic welder for the joinery, and examine it to see what sort of framework you might want to add to bolster it.

Why 8'3"? Trying to fit full plywood/drywall sheets in the bed?

    Assuming you are serious,

I seriously doubt you could weld the plastic bed, even if you could
you're talking about adding another 2' off the back wheels without altering the wheel base?
I saw where someone i know tried to repair a Tacoma Bed with plastic welding unsucessfully.

Why not just buy a full size truck with an 8' bed?
I bought one a few years ago, it was a "fleet" model.
Full 4x8 sheets fit into it fine

i think you're starting off with the wrong truck for this.

also, stretching a frame would be very intensive, and regardless of adding material before or after the rear axle, you'll be significantly altering the crash worthiness of the truck. most insurance agencies won't want to cover the significant liability this poses, so i suggest getting all the paperwork straight before cutting up the truck.

yes the bed is composite, so some typical fiberglass tooling will work, but will never be as strong as the original, it will also be very difficult to cover up the seam without planning to do a spray-on bedliner later on.
