I have no AK specific cleaning kit just using 30 cal stuff. I was YouTube educated to move the retaining lever that way perhaps that was wrong idk

It works, it's just there is a better way of doing it.
Your Yugo did not come with a cleaning kit? Checked the trap door in the buttsock? It looks like a small metal cylinder.

No trap door. I don’t think it has a bayonet lug either

Ok so I will show my ignorance here is this the bayonet lug or has it been deleted. I think it’s supposed to be the lug

If this is the log then I need to figure out where to find a bayonet I don’t imagine they’re all the same for AK

It is bayo lug. Do you have the same lug on the Front Sight Base also, or only on the gas block?

There are several generations of AKM and AK74 bayoonets. The very first one was made for the original milled AKs without bayo lugs, and they fit around the barrel. Those rifles and bayos are VERY rare, so you do not not need to worry about them.

The rest of the AK, AKM, AK74, AK100 bayos will fit a standard AK bayo lugs. Difference will be in which lug they use. AK74/AK100 uses the front lug, and requires an AK74 stule flash supressor to mount the bayo. Bayo ring slips on the front of the "compensator". In 74/100 family the rear lug is used to mount the grenade launcher.

Milled AK/AKM has only the gas block bayo lug. It needs to have a slant muzzle brake to mount the bayo ring.

    More detals, with pics:
    https://worldbayonets.com/Misc__Pages/ak_bayonets/ak_bayonets.html

My personal preference in AK bayos:
    1 Russian/Soviet AK74 bayo
2 Bulgarian AK74 bayo (the only country outside of Russia that makes AK74 bayonets)
    3 Russian AKM type 2
4 East German or Yugo AKM bayo type 2
5 Russian AKM type 1 or Russian type 2/1
6 Polish AKM type 2 (it does not have a saw blade on the spine, like 1-5 and 7-8 have)
7 Romanian AKM type 1/2 not as common as #8
8 Romanian AKM type 1. Probably your cheapest option, but also usually beat to death.

PS Poles use a 5.56 AK variant adapted to barrel launched grenades. But they kept their AKM bayos, since their design was superior to NATO bayonets (knife, bayo, wire cutter, saw, hammer in one). Beryl uses a differnt, shorter muzzle device and moved the FSB back to accomodate the length of the AKM bayonet handle.

I would think I’d need to look for the East German/ Yugo one then

So you have an AKM arrangement, with a rear lug and slant brake. Bayo ring will go right over the brake.
Any of the bayos I have listed above will fit it.

Brandon makes great videos. But I will take a lowly Romy over any rifle made by the self-proclaimed AK guy. He is a showman, nothing more.
If I want a better rifle for the same, or less $$$, I will take a WBP AKM built on FB's equipment, with a Polish CHFCL FB barrel. And a Pic rail.

Shot this thing for the first time today. First time I e ever shot an AK. I was impressed. Smooth shooting, very controllable, low recoil, and seemingly accurate. I only had 25yarda to shoot but made the most of it. Rifle was zeroed out of the box ready to go. Tried a sample of all the mags I had and the steels are definitely easier to insert. The Tapco mags were tight perhaps they just need to be used more idk. Absolutely happy with it.

Tapcos will wear down as you use them.

Stopped by lgs for some supplies. Almost zero support for AK’s. A small box with assorted ammo $15.99 a box of 20. I passed. A few Magpul grips. I didn’t even see any mags. I did find a synthetic take off grip for $5.99 thought I’d try it if I don’t like it im not out anything much.

AK12, AK15 variants now come with Pic rails standard, and AK-74M and AK101 series get retrofitted with Pic furniture, or Pic adapter for the side rail. The beauty of the side rail is that optic keeps its zero, regardless of how many times you take it off or put it on. Just need to adjust the tension on the clamp properly.
