Remote start - how to get in without shutting off engine?

I like it because it doesn’t rely on the DCM connection to work. I’ve been in camping in areas with zero cell service and the remote start doesn’t work. Plus, I like not having the connection to Toyota. If I can get the door to open for a little extra, I’m good with that too!

 

I was gonna say. There has to be a way. This would be a big seller a company should create.

theft makes zero sense. I have a 2nd gen with a key. If I leave it running, best of luck to a modern person trying to drive a broken truck that is manual. Probably won’t make it 5 feet.

Yessir! No change to how it used to operate before (with the exception of completely new hardware and harnessing), except now the engine will NOT die. You can get in, push the brake, and drive off. If you get in without the fob and push the brake, your engine WILL die as a safety precaution that's two fold:

- To ensure no one can just hop in and steal your vehicle, AND
- To ensure you don't accidentally drive off without your fob.

As long as your OEM fob is on you, you're good to go. And yes, ABSOLUTELY 100% Plug 'n' Play!

Win-win.

Is it worth getting a remote start? What’s the point if it shuts off after you open the door? The best way to warm up the car is to start driving at a low rate of speed otherwise you’re just wasting gas. I want to buy a remote start just to look cool.

 

What year is your truck? I thought all Tacos come with remote starters.

 

My 2019 TRD OR doesnt.

 

Seems like a worthy mod, especially for those in cold climates

 

Or in hot, when truck sat outside in 98 degree weather all day long.

 

Except that with the N2 Mod it doesn’t shut off when you open the door. See post #107.

 

Finally, we have takeover for remote start.
I have an older version of N2designs remote start, is it upgradeable to the new takeover version? should I wait for the new release? Or just get the one by accessorides, if they are the same device?
