From that date forward, a new cleaning process was reportedly implemented. The actual failure rate of 2022+ tundra engines built prior is speculated to be sub 1% of those produced.

If I were a Tundra shopper today (I am) any Tundra (new or used) would be on the table. I’d just be sure to factor in the cost of a ~100k mile powertrain warranty if buying a 2022+.

Keep us posted. I don’t have any connections. Just sumbitted an inquiry. The sales rep just came back with a “Let me get some numbers for you” reply. That was later yesterday….

Are you in the 2022+ FB group, cause everyday there is one down or someone posting with some issue, it definitely had me put several deals on hold when I was shopping.

Nope. Just a member on Tundras.com
I’m not telling anyone what to do with their money. Simply stating my perspective. For me, I’d have no problem buying one if the price was right, including above mentioned warranty purchase lol.

I get it, and I'm in similar boat, could probably use a full size, not a fan of other brands and so I keep coming back to the Tundra. I think for the right deal (last I made was $10k off and still didnt float my fancy) and truck with a platnium warranty Id consider.

Yes. I have the 24 trd sport and I don’t like that it’s just reflectors. Looking around to see if there’s a way to put lights in

Main bearing part # changed after April 2024. One might assume it had something to do with the failures.

    @JWestie

    1. Finally, we have something meaningful and concrete.

    2. Changing the bearing part number doesn't sound like "machining debris" to me.

    3. I wonder what they will do with the 100,000 pulled engines.

That's some pretty amazing Tundra news.

Does that mean a Tundra owner who has an engine fail at 150k due to this issue gets a free reset to 0 miles on the engine???

    Kinda off topic but....

My buddy bought a '14 KIA for his work commute (74 miles one way), at 260k miles he got a check engine light, took it back to dealership and there was a recall...he got a new motor. The car now has over 480k on it (220k on the 'new' motor).

I personally would not want a local dealer to replace my engine. I would want a new truck from the factory.

Toyota didn’t say hybrids were not affected. Their excuse not to include them was due to having electric power to still move. Not a great excuse at all, but they aren’t claiming hybrids aren’t affected. Just an FYI for people not in the know.

I've also looked at Tundras but engine issues, cracked seat bases, leaky door seals etc are just too much to overlook, even with the heavy discounts. Plus, I cant swallow a hybrid vehicle only getting 17.5 real-world MPG. I plan to wait a couple years and see what electrified options fit my needs. Plan B is to drive the Tacoma forever and get en EV daily.

So you would expect Toyota to give you a brand-spanking new 2024 to replace your one or two-year-old truck?

I sure as hell would not want a new engine installed by the local dealer.

Seeing all the cracked evaps on the 4th gen and what the install looks like (removing whole dash, etc.) my same thoughts.
