I'm fairly certain I know who the seller is. If you message him, ask him if it ever hit any bbq sauce. It's a pnw legend story

I'm glad you asked......drum roll please.....

FJR1300 for the win. Reasonably priced, under 20k. In production since 2001 but not sold in the US until 2003. Powerplant has remained largely unchanged and is a well proven piece. Lots of them out there with over 200k miles on them with minimal work. Easy to work on with good aftermarket support. Excellent forums with knowledgeable members who will help you. Electronics are dated compared to some of the newer stuff but what is there works and works reliably. If you look around you can find used ones with reasonable mileage and accessories already installed. Over the years mores FJRs have finished the Iron Butt Rally than have started it.

Changed oil, filter, and final drive oil in my 2014 FJR when I got home from work. Turned 70k miles as I parked this morning at work. It should soon be broken in I hope......

    i think a grom would be best:rofl:

tbh idk the one thing id personally stay away from is ducati... they are nice bikes but everyone i know out here that had one said they are wiked bikes but not reliable and super costly so eh?

id go with any of the japan models that seem to fit what you are wanting.

well sad day for me! i have my backpack strapped on the back of my sissy bar since its all i have atm (new bag on order!) the bag has a cup holder on the side that has always worked very well and has a small strap to hold down a cup of the right size. well i was cruising on the highway today at about 85mph and i heard a ting and turned my head and saw my cup fly off into the shoulder hit the ground again and launch my coffee into the air and then disappear into the shoulder..... it was bound to happen but maaaaan now i got no coffee and no cup lmao

My buddy absolutely loves his 1290 adv. It's probably what I would look at if I was interested in that market. But tbh I don't follow that market at all.

On that note a dedicated dirtbike is the most fun you can have in the woods

buddy of mine owned the 890? and loved it for doing highway riding and he stated it never felt out of power when riding long distance but he is different. the one down side he said it just wasnt playful like his t7 so he sold the 890 to keep his t7

I've ridden a 790 (blah) and a bmw gs1290. The gs was much nicer in comparison. Didn't love either.

Id like to ride a T7

The GS is massive on paper (and with measuring tape) but you don't feel it at all when rolling. It's pretty remarkable. My first time on a GS was off road and I was apprehensive until we started moving. What a bike. So much of it is weird but as a package it's great.

I'd get an FJR like the others have recommended if it was purely for touring.

But multi is the best do it all road bike imho. Nice now that used ones are relatively cheap.

Worthwhile to note on the Tracer, that CP3 engine sounds down on power by the numbers but man, if it's anything like the mt09, that thing pulls off the line. Very fun engine.

Idk nearly enough about touring bikes than some of our veterans in here, but I’m sure you could guess my pick…lol.

S1000XR may be old but damn if the engines aren’t bulletproof with proper maintenance.

    FJR’s seem pretty solid.

I like your plan and those are solid choices. It's great having no payments so that's a pro for finding a nice used one. However those are good finance rates and new bikes come with a warranty. Any of them nearby that you could go see in person?

The KTM 1290 is a lot of fun but I agree the ADV looks huge. Maybe check out the Super Duke GT if still considering that platform and intending to stay on pavement. Sometimes I wonder if I should have went with that but think I can get by on the R for a while longer.

Currently I prefer a bike that's more sport than touring, so that's my focus personally. Ultimately they're all amazing machines so it comes down to which one excites you the most and feels the best.

Out of those three options I would get the S1000XR without hesitating. You are already familiar with BMW, you are buying it outright, and ins is cheaper. With only 10K miles it should be like new. Leaves you plenty of $$$ to do whatever mods you want. 2016 is only 8 years old, not like it is vintage!

I could have called your answer Chuck

I'll be honest, haven't looked at the GT that much, didn't love how it looked compared to the GX but worth another look.

100% agree on dedicated bike. Huge national forest is about 45 minutes of 55mph road away, so something like a CRF300L that's street legal to get me there would be killer I think.

GS is massive in garage space, too haha. I had written off the multistradas, but am planning on going down that rabbit hole today in light of yours and @Wykeddan's suggestions. And yeah, CP3 seems to have torquey grunt for days, should be fairly similar feel to the F800GS I have now where it's basically flat torque from 2500rpm on.

If it was closer I'd have offered to that guy already. Really debating a 12 hour there and back with a trailer.

I think I can see the Tracer up in Spokane, doesn't look like anyone in the area has the suzuki, which is a bummer. I'll be on the west side of the state in late August and if I still haven't bought anything will plan on swinging through some dealers over there to see if I can't swing my leg over one.

    Good points, thanks!

Thanks for the input everyone. Responses are all over the board and I'm no closer to knowing what I want to do, but still appreciate it

The GS is a very "big" bike with its boxer motor. But it does handle well with it being low to the ground.
Id rather not have a street legal bike for that short distance in a truck.

There will always be compromise on tires, legality ie lights that will get broken offroad, and weight.
