Id want to look at the KTM 890 SMT but not sure if its powerful enough or if I’d trust KTM reliability at this point.

I didn't have it long enough to figure out, ha.

I'm trying to figure out doing it on the golf. The hitch sits much lower. I've ordered a main bar for the rack that has a 8 in rise in it instead of being straight. That should give me the ground clearance.

Then I need to decide if I trust the hitch enough (rated for 350 tw compared to the wrx of 500). And I think I'll need to add air bags in the rear springs.

Anyone in this thread heading for Vintage Motorcycle Days in Ohio this weekend? I'm riding out Friday and plan on being at the event Saturday. Hoping to meet Wendy Crockett and get her to autograph my copy of her book "Pushing Miles".

I didn't really want a manual. Even when I was shopping for the wrx, just didn't like the cvt. I've driven manuals all my life and with kids just burnt out on it.

Also not keen on a car bursting into flames from hitting something as simple as a deer.

Golf has more power and creature comfort. But lacks in hatch space a little.

I hate the MK7 GTI my wife picked up while we were dating. Only comfort is it is manual, but not really that fun to drive for me.

Bummer man! At least it didn't skip into traffic. I have a green 32oz Yeti that I never use, and have a duplicate red one I like the color of better. I'll send it to you for postage if you'd like, or drop it off if local, I forget if you're in WA. Trying to downsize my life a bit from a bunch of shit I had in a 3br house now that Im back to a 900sqft apt.

Looks like this, but in a cupboard.

so ive driven that gen and they are fun to push buuuuut they also are not fun to push since that car is more refined for an older man/woman who has kids and wants something fun to get to work but nothing out of hand. i liked my si and my friends miata a lot more for the fact they were not riding on rails the entire time so you had to drive it more if that makes sense?

Had a friggin calamity this morning and need to vent about it.

Bought my AT from my coworker, and he told me up front that the battery was coming due for a replacement but was still going strong, which it was. I keep my bike at a friends house that can keep it in his garage, safe from the horde of tweaker trash here in Everett, and he has a bit of a steep and narrow driveway, so my usual way of riding off is to turn the bike 90* in his driveway, roll it down the slope, then mount and start it on the street.

Do so this morning, and bike goes dead immediately, battery clearly toast sometime during my trip to Michigan all last week. Decide, screw it, I'll just take the truck to work since I'm hard up for time. Go to push the bike back into the garage up the driveway, and stupid me, 600# of physics said "lol, nope". So now I got a dead bike exposed on the street.

Thankfully, have the trickle charger in my truck that I had brought over, so plug that in and wait the 20 mins or so to get it juiced up, since dismantling the side of my twin to get to the battery to jump it wasn't an option. Impatient me tried to start it a few times not waiting long enough and would watch the meter go back to zero basically. :annoyed:

Light finally goes green, get the bike started, then realize I need to disconnect the SAE cord so I...put the kickstand down, and predictably, the bike shuts off again... :violent:

Cue me sitting in the driveway for 20 more mins, and finally get the bike started and pulled back into the garage, and now have a battery on order. What a way to start a morning.

Honestly just glad I didn't have this issue come up during my 101 loop trip two weekends ago when I was several hundred miles from home.

that kickstand switch'll get ya lol. Many a time I forget to put mine up going into gear and have to restart the bike. like you said, at least it happened while you were local.

would it have been possible to bump start it? i've never done so on a street bike, only dirt.

Maybe, but I'm still getting used to the weight and size of this bike so running down the street with it didn't inspire confidence, plus he lives on a flat cul-de-sac at the bottom of a hill, so not much bump-start opportunity with out significant effort.
