Well she got it b/c it was cute, and initially I agreed to have a VW as everything should be covered / dealt w/ warranty (new car then). You're right in that it drives as expected when not pushing or even spirited at best, it's when you want it to do anything exciting it falls short of already low expectations.

Mine is a 7.5 R. So bigger turbo and awd. It scoots imo. I did a tune and she's a hoot around town and 30+ mpg on the highway to help. I like it more than my wrx and gto I had.

The Zuke is nice, I'm not much help though. I tend to think of the Concours 1400 or a K1600GT as sport tourers.

Yeahhhh I have a 4runner and a hitch carrier, I could make it work without a street legal bike. They're easy to make street legal in WA so it's almost a why not thing. Also no room for a trailer unless I put it on the street, which doesn't exactly appeal to me.

That and the AWD would potentially get my attention away from the lackluster driving of the GTI and consider some modifying it to address issues. But as it is technically not my car, and we both agree it should go in favor of something bigger, it's best left as is. Our neighbors recently had their MK6 written off and mentioned to keep them in mind if we do sell, though I'd prefer to not see the car again personally.

Id say use the hitch carrier. Plenty of bikes can do the tarmac and dirt but it'll never be as fun offroad (which is where most of the fun begins anyways). Also if something breaks you're stuck and have to get someone to get your 4runner and hitch carrier at a minimum to get home again or getting hurt offroad.

Went out for a scooter ride with the wife yesterday. Got passed for the first time ever by a car when riding. It scared her but I said if you are doing 39 in a 40 it’s going to happen. She was leading and I saw the car coming up behind me so I got close to her so the car could pass quickly. I told her if she was doing 5 over like I ask her to this wouldn’t happen.

Forgot to post about it over here.

Went out on the dual sports with wifey Sunday. What was supposed to be a short rip around the mountain turned into a full blown ride. Riding down a forest road to a small lake near us, I managed to hit my first jumps! Went over the first berm and felt confident AF, so I started blipping the throttle and rocking back when I’d crest each of em. I actually got a small amount of air time on the third and fourth try! The high only lasted so long. Going into a turn, I noticed I was gonna be in a bad spot too close to the right, so I was trying to ease back left when I hit a slick patch of mud and washed the back tire out. Everything rode home fine. Needless to say, I’m a bit sore and had to replace the bars. And my racks are pretty bent up. :bikewhoops::headbang:

There's definitely a technique to jumping. Typically you want to move forward over the bars or stay centered. Not rocking back. Practice makes perfect
