What I get out of your post Lrgrnr, is there are alot of things that fail in these trucks if you wheel them like they advertise....

I personally am afraid to take my truck off road and hammer on it, because its going to break. Hell shit seems to fail just driving down the hwy.

I would argue the CVs are stronger than the rear diff on the ORs.

I'm with Larry here...these trucks hold up well, but for real offroad usage, there are things that just plain need to be replaced whether you break them or not.

The rear diff issue for the ORs is either a design fuckup or a manufacturing fuckup, or both.

Unfortunately you are in the minority of Tacoma owners.

Toyota sells an image. Yep some of us buy the PreRunner because we actually like the look and higher driving position and have no NEED OFR 4WD and no intention of taking it off road where we would absolutely need a 4WD and love that resale value when old....Let me rephrase.

MOST buyers buy the PreRunner because they like the look and higher driving position and have no need for 4WD OR intention of taking it off road and LOVE THAT resale value when old. (And many DO go off road just fine) The PreRunner was marketing genius the TRD OR addition was icing on the cake for Toyota. And with thT MANY PreRunner owners do just fine OFF ROAD!!!! That 's incredible I know for some to swallow.....

Toyota knows most PreRunner buyers don't go offroad, wouldn't think of it. Most don't need 4 springs, Likely will never drive on a road where the steering shaft reveals its slop. May not even drive in snow. The "look" is there though. The"image" is there. Sort of like a lot of vehicles that look fast but are not, Motorcycles that look fast or the HD that definably has and perpetuates an image of the outlaw...but are owned by law abiding people. and yes yes MANY PreRunner owners do just fine OFF ROAD!!!! Again......That 's incredible and unbelievable I know for some to swallow.....

They know people want and buy trucks that LOOK like off rugged road vehicles but will never test that. Because they won't chance a scratch. Millions of them. Far more than on this forum. Given a recent poll on this very forum nearly half or more do NOT mod their trucks at all and never go off road!!!! All poseurs.....Shame on them!!

A relatively small group will heavily mod them and take off road and trash them in the bush and likely won't fight very hard and long for warranty work after having done so because they have too many mods and the things that are likely to break in that environment are those very mods designed to keep things from breaking!!Then there are the Toyota loyalists who despite Toyota will continue to buy them because they seriously believe no other truck can compare.

And YET DESPITE THE COMPLAINTS. SAFETY ISSUES, BAD SPRINGS for YEARS and, BAD PRESS, Toyota will like the Energizer bunny, go on and on and sell everyone they make especially and more so to those who love to be seen in them all modded out with no where to go nor do they want to go......I think they are running on "perception fumes".

And you know what? There is nothing wrong with that..nothing at all

"posers don't break shit on their trucks...They just watch where they park at the Mall. Nothing wrong with that either.

    You are one arrogant fuck.
People like you are the posers Since when did 4wd make a truck a "real truck" ? Just cause you are unable to trail ride without the truck doing your work for you, doesn't give you the right to slam others!

    You disagree wiht this:
So you would you take your heavily modded truck in for broken suspension parts you modified and expect Toyota to cover that under warranty? Or an engine that sucked water? I don't think the Moss-Magnison Act would support you...

Thats all I am saying. people who heavily mod their trucks are less likely to complain to Toyota when something goes very wrong. In the OP's case we have one side and no research results from the other. On the face of it he has a case and a lawyer who is willing to take that case......have not heard form the lawyer lately.

We should be made aware of the costs of proceeding with this kind of claim and the obstacles. For those who do not mod their trucks and may actually use them on a "farm" in muddy fields.....

    .
I am in SET's area and know their control and history with Toyota .... I will not buy the "SET Extended Warranty" for this reason.

Actually, when I bought my Tacoma, I tried to get the dealer to quote me a price on a "Toyota OEM Platinum Warranty" .... they would ONLY quote SET's Extended Warranty ...

Soon (before 36 months), I will buy the "Toyota OEM Platinum Warranty" from one of the dealers on line here.

Parts modified wouldn't be toyota parts so that would not be applicable

    Thats what insurance is for.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act covers you from aftermarket parts that are not related to any oem part failure. Example, the dealer cannot say that your K&N intake caused your rear end failure and deny warranty coverage. They most likely would be able to say your suspension lift caused premature failure of cv joints.

So neither of your examples would be really accurate.

    Who pissed in your wheaties?

I didnt slam anyone, other than a slight jab at KingFrog and his 'rugged trail'. I even prefaced my reponse with: "I RESPECTFULLY disagree"

I referred to people buying prerunners and mall crawlers as poser because that is what they are buying- I was reinforcing the claim that toyota sells an image, a vehicle that 'poses' as a capable offroader. If you drive a poser vehicle, then in a sense you are a poser, projecting the image of the truck. There is nothing derogatory behind that, nothing meant as an insult.

And the 'real' truck comment was in reference to the claim that toyota trucks are all about 'image'- I stated that I (and others) didnt buy an 'image' I bought a REAL truck.

So lighten up, remove the stick from your ass, and actually read the post before gettin all hot and bothered. The last thing this forum needs is another asshole- my addition made the site reach its limit :D

"Toyota markets trucks without 'the goods', but only to the idiots who want the look but not the function. They still sell REAL trucks to those of us who want em" If this wasn't a slam then maybe it's needs re-worded?;) At that back to topic...

If everything you're saying is true, OP, there's no reason they should deny you that warranty repair. Horrible dealer; I sure hope Toyota steps up to the plate for you. If not, well I imagine it's going to be harder for most of us to justify buying a Toyota branded vehicle in the future. Despite the mostly irrelevant pissing matches above, please keep us informed on any progress made with your claim.
