    Fuck yeah!

No pressure, I knew you'd be working so I figured I'd fill the room with random work I do on the side for others.

First batch, I'll shoot out some PM's if you haven't already sent one so we can get started next week.

What's funny is that, it might be off about 1/32" maybe even less

But that's because we were a hair off of the ruler :anonymous:

    20240713_130900.jpg

On the plus side, the bottle opener/tie down as well as the passenger side tie downs I sent you had its holes enlarged slightly to make up for these little things if someone is off even by 1/16".

I wanted to place emphasis on ease-of-installation.

Had to leave earlier but came back to finish these.

So for second and third batches, please post up the bracket type you wish to order if you haven't already done so!

Also, with first batch starting next week, I may want to get enough steel for second batch as well so I could take payment for those if you're willing to accept a two-week lead time.

And to add, I believe @MagicToolbox will be working up 3D printed inserts.

I'd like to accommodate those wanting to get a 3D printed panel and save everyone on shipping.

With my brackets arriving to him by this weekend, he'll be able to mock up inserts based on the brackets I'm providing with these kits.

So if you want an insert, make sure you post that information as well.

I've never sold prints before, I'll check and see what it would cost to get hem printed at a send cut send type place.

Yeah just thought it'd be easier for everyone as you can send me a flat rate box with a bunch of prints and I'll add them to people's orders as needed.

Right, I can send a several sets of inserts to @Kwikvette, the question is, which version of tie down are you getting @ljerr2? The geometry of the F-Bombs don't lend themselves well to a printed insert - I don't think. I'll be getting a set of tie downs Saturday if the tracking is correct, I'll know more then. Right now, I have a file for a full backer that would get bolted between the tie-down and the bed, and a second half size version that should work if you want every 1/8" of clearance in the tailgate area. This version would need to be double sided taped or glued in place.

SEE!! I'm not the only one.

Is there any way we can get a moderator to sticky this on the 3rd GEN homepage?

Could you tell me about the inserts? Where do they go, and why would I want them?

I can. I'll post some pics this weekend, I'm expecting a package from @Kwikvette with a few different versions of the only visible piece of the stiffeners.

Depending on how you plan to use the tie down bracket, there has been some concern about the relatively sharp edges of the steel. If you put a rope through the hole, cinch it down tight and then it rubs back and forth, it is possible that the rope could be cut or damaged. One option would be to cut or file a round-over on all edges that would be exposed to the ropes. That's really time consuming - not viable for Kwikvette to do, and sounds not fun for the end user to do.

What I am proposing is a printed plastic grommet of sorts that will ease the edge and provide some chafe prevention. The first prototypes are displayed back a ways in this thread. The plastic I am printing with is called ASA, it is UV stable and is generally considered a strong option for exterior prints. It is "better" for printing due to less VOC emission during printing among other reasons.
