I have a 2020 TRD OR LB crew cab and a nice Interstate 6x10 trailer. I want to haul 2 dirt bikes and a Tenere 700 up to the NC mountains. I do NOT have trailer brakes. Manual says not to tow over 1000 lbs without trailer brakes. Trailer is 1374, bikes total about 1000 for a towing total of 2374, say 2600 to be safe. Tongue weight about 400. Does that sound safe? I've towed 2000 five or six times no issues. Thx, wish I had a bigger truck haha.

Just my opinion, but anything over 1500 lbs definitely needs trailer brakes.

I also have a 2020 DCLB that we tow with. We tow our Off Grid Expedition 2.0 that weighs approximately right under 2800 lbs bone dry (all aluminum exterior with full steel frame). Add in electronics, LifePo4 batteries, water , interior stuff, ect, ECT we are probably in the 3k -3500 range.
Having come down a mountain with it and having had our trailer brakes go out I can confidently say, if you are in the 2500 to 2600 lb range you are going to need trailer brakes.
Redarc makes a killer plug and play brake controller.
Of course that doesn't really help if your trailer doesn't have brakes in the first place.

Depending on the state, trailer brakes may be required for that weight of trailer.

Super smart. The confidence you feel driving on down hill runs when you feel the brakes kicking in, instead of feeling the trailer pushing the truck is a great feeling.
Well worth the extra expenditure IMHO. Also Redarc makes great stuff, their brake controllers are very easy to install, and work effortlessly.
