Well ... Toyota website says the

$48 Genuine OEM Toyota New Oil Filter Housing Cap + Plug 15620-31060 15643-31050

15620-31060 is not for the 2022 model year (less expensive) but another one is designed for 2022 and pointed me to the second part number (3x cost). If that part number is correct for 2022 and the site is wrong it would be better.

Thanks ... that helps. I do not feel like driving to Tucson, but I could order it. Do not know how I missed that in a search, but then my gray hair goes a little deeper than the "root" sometimes.

 

When I look up my order on Amazon for Toyota Oil Filter Cap -

15620-31060 purchased in Aug 2018 and installed shortly thereafter (on my 2018 TRD Sport 4 dr 4x4) the site now says


So, WTF knows?

If I were intrigued by the notion of swapping to the aluminum Filter Cap I’d get an OEM one off Amazon (15620-31060) and give it a try. If it didn’t fit, back it’d go.

Oh, and fun fact, the plastic one I removed from the Taco fit my son’s 2012 RAV4 that has a 4 cylinder. His was missing the better part of more than one of the “tabs”, well on its way to failure.

I am not exactly "determined", but can see the advantage of working metal instead of plastic. I will not say how many miles remain until my next oil change today ... maybe tomorrow I will ... but I have time.

 

Actually, that is true, that part doesn't 'fit' a Tacoma. The Tacoma cap is plastic. Just so happens they have the same dimensions.

i think all the fitment guides will say none of the alum ones will fit the tacoma but the right one will .....the tube inside might be different length

Try to change the oil on a cold engine also. The metal/plastic/rubber components won’t be swollen that way.
