It's just a pleasant suggestion. You can still pass 2-3 gas stations and price shop it. Mr. Tacoma isn't that serious.

Never a good idea to run it that low air can get into the system . I never go lower than 1/4 of a tank .

I can happily say I’ve never seen this at. Running to real empty is asking for trouble especially with 140k+ worth of gas run through her. It is however cool, thanks for sharing

I must be your counterpart on this subject. Out of 192 fuel-ups, I'm sure I've seen this message before 100 of them.

Thanks to Fuelly, I present Exhibit A. Pretty sure "Please Refuel" comes on around the 19 gallons area.

First warning is 2 gallons earlier. This warning is 2 gallons remaining. If you look at your current MPG you can calculate what is left. There is a group of us who played this game of chicken back in the early 3G days. We’d pull into a gas station immediately as the light went off and two click the pump with results. We went through all the engineering stuff about contaminants and cooling of the pumps. Fun stuff. You’re right, it’s awfully nice of them to politely ask. I’d pay good money to have the photo @bkhlrTaco's posted as my warning screen.

I can count on one hand how many times I’ve pulled into a gas station to fuel up when the gas light wasn’t on. And I’ve done hundreds of thousands of miles in gen2's and 3's.

I gotta hand it to Toyota with regard to the consistency of the fuel warning indicator system and actual fuel remaining, it’s been the same for the trucks I’ve driven - 2012, 15, 17, and the 22's I currently drive (about 3 gallons).

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Keep that up and you very well may be rewarded with a burnt out fuel pump.
