I am new here had my 2012 2.7L 5 speed for all its life and had no problems till now. All gauges are not working now they were just bouncing around for about 2 weeks. It seems there is SH$T for info on the 2nd generation. I pulled the truck up on the service ramps and went all over the trans (5 speed manual) and have not found the speed sensor. I have a repair manual (shit Hastings) and it don't say anything about speed sensor in there or have a picture. I need a factory repair manual download, and yes can't find on either. I tried to download the parts manual off this sight and it would not let me saying the file is corrupted. Oreillys ran a scan that said vehicle speed sensor "A", code P0500. Looking online I am very disappointed to see 6 different versions of a "vehicle speed sensor". I don't seem to have a good place to get "correct info", and I am hoping that I can get it here. THX in advance Clint

Check passenger side of transfer case for your speed sensor. Thats why hasting manual lot great they are very generic. At 2012, it might have been relocated to the right rear ABS sensor from the tcase I don’t remember the exact year.

Tons of info here if you know where to look.

See the post below for information on the vehicle speed circuit (scroll down to P0500)

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2nd-gen-information-diagnostics.784008/#post-28042157

If all the gauges are going stupid on the Combination Meter (Instrument Cluster) though you have another issue and you can ignore the P0500 for now because if the Meter isn't working properly it likely isn't outputting a vehicle speed signal to the PCM either (thus the P0500).

I think you should check power and grounds to the Meter as a first step.

Ok I still need to know WHERE the speed sensor is located. I also need a download of the factory 2012 tacoma 4cyl factory manual AND parts manual. The truck is 2X4.

Did you not read my post?

There is no Vehicle Speed Sensor on a 2012 Tacoma.

Vehicle speed is sent from the rear wheel speed sensors to the Skid Control ECU (ABS Module) to the Combination Meter (Instrument Cluster) which sends it to all the other modules.

You said the whole cluster is going wonky therefore the easiest and most logical first step in diagnosing this issue would be checking powers and grounds to the cluster.

But if you insist on looking for yourself https://partsouq.com/ for parts diagrams by VIN and https://techinfo.toyota.com for factory service info.

Ok to finish this post. Truck got out of the shop with a BIG bill. The dash was out because of fuses under the hood out. Why, what caused, nobody knows. The AC compressor internally grenaded and that is where all the cost came from. One thing thats strange is in North America (last month, july) there is no condensor for a 2012 tacoma 4cyl 5sp base cab to be found,(Yes you heard right). I found a repair manual to download but yet to find a "parts manual" to download. That would help on finding the right parts (since my truck has unfindable parts).
