Hello, I have a 2020 trd off road v6 speed manual. I just lost the clutch disk with 31000 miles. Been driving manual for 37 years. Anyone else have failure early?

Prepare to be accused of not knowing how to drive a manual because that's how many of the keyboard warriors in this forum roll. Good luck with your issue. I hope you can get it resolved quickly.

Yep, my clutch went out at 43000 miles. I've only been driving standards for 22 years though. First and only vehicle to fail. You are not alone and plenty of people have ran into the same thing. I had mine replaced with a Centerforce clutch and had my mechanic do the accumulator delete while it was open. I laughed at Toyota when they offered to replace mine with another OEM one for $1500. Way cheaper to go the aftermarket route and get some better parts.

Man I hate hearing that! My 2020 has 56k on it. Do you tow a lot or back a boat or trailer around? I ask cause the reverse is so tall on these trucks it’s hard on the clutch. I got mine pretty hot not long after I got it.

There have been a decent number of them fail early. Everybody blames the driver but typically it's just bad parts. Unfortunately, you're typically up a creek either way because there is next to no warranty on the clutch.

I would personally replace with another OEM and be done with it. I've seen people note problems from all the different brands. I wouldn't be scared of OEM, a new one has a very good chance of not failing like the original did.

And by new OEM I mean new TOB, new pressure plate, new clutch disk. Some even say new fork is a good idea.

Mine has 80K with no issues but I blame the accumulator for putting extra wear on the clutch. I wish you luck with whatever you decide on the replacement.

Is that what is applying constant pressure on the release bearing?

Was having issues recently where it would slip in 4th and 5th, below 2K RPM at wide open throttle, but outside of that is was normal. I pressed the slave cylinder all the way back, took a lot of hand strength, and bled it to cycle the fluid.

had a lot of air in it and figured the inside of the slave cylinder got a little crusty, but it is still applying a lot of pressure without clutch input.

Only moved the boat once from the back yard to the driveway.. All street driving. No real abuse.

The accumulator doesn’t do anything besides dampen clutch engagement slightly. The slave cylinder is what pushes the throwout bearing up against the pressure plate and that is because the slave cylinder has a spring in it. All of that is by design and is the best way to mitigate problems. The bearing is in constant contact with the pressure plate and spins all the time because that is the best way to accomplish a system that doesn’t need clutch adjustments periodically. If the bearing didn’t ride on the pressure plate full time, you’d need springs to pull it away and then would need to make adjustments over time to keep the bearing where it needs to be. The pressure plate fingers extend out as the clutch disc wears, so the adjustments are to stay away from there. Much better to just have the bearing spin full time and as the fingers extend out, the spring in the slave just compresses.

If your clutch is slipping, it’s worn.

What does “lost the clutch disc” mean exactly?
Worn? Warped? overheated? Actually ran away and is nowhere to found?

attaching pics of clutch disc, pressure plate, etc will probably get you more help.

Are you the original owner, or bought 2020 Tacoma used? I don't know what is "no real abuse," is. But if you bought truck used, previous owner probraly was driving like " Fast and The Furious" crap.

I never understood why folks would try to live a quarter mile at a time in a stock, DD, or offroad truck. Like there’s a lot more fun ways to drive dumb than roastin em I think lol

Was this an sudden/acute failure or did it wear off slowly?

I see, that is what I figured that the slave cylinder had a spring, but didn't know if the accumulator had something of that nature as well that would apply even more pressure on top of the slave cylinder.

The clutch slipping was very internment, and stopped completely after forcing the slave cylinder back. The only time it would slip before is if I let the clutch out slowly, so my thoughts go to it binding up slightly.

Possibly had the slave get stuck or something and maintain pressure on the fork. More pressure than usual of course. Hard to say.
