    Hello, TW

recently ive been wondering about my current corrosion prevention measures ive done for my truck and RP-342 has got me wondering if its waxy nature would trap water and contaminant’s against the surface of the metal with prolonged contact or perforation of the coating. I’ve applied RP-342 on the frame only and especially between the sliders and the frame pictured below. I’ve wondered about spraying something like CorrFree which is a gel like corrosion preventative thats used in Canada alot (it’s essentially the same as NHOU here in the US) which i have sprayed the insides of my doors and rockers with due to its scentless properties and creeping ability.

recently RP-342’s wax like properties makes me wonder if ive actually done more harm than good. I’ve found that spraying CorrFree on top of 342 makes it repel water better and seep into crevices and overlap areas better

theres is no rust on this truck the orange color comes from the color if the dirt that is especially prevalent here in the sierras and just happens to stick well to the wax:

I use the Cosmoline more on flat surfaces and PB Surface Shield (like Fluid Film) for creeping into crevices. To me, Cosmoline is somewhat "thin" almost paint like so I don't think anything could get behind it and stay behind it.

i got the coating pretty thick in the lap areas for the slider so i think its actually pretty 'gummy' in that area. the rest of the frame has had 2 passes but it is thin like you describe. the front cab mount and the forward areas of the rear axle are seeing chipping of the coating

Everyone is going to tell you what they use and why it's the best. I bet most use fluid film or cosmoline.

I happen to use Cavity Coater by KBS: https://www.kbs-coatings.com/cavity-coater.html -- if you decide to go this route be sure to buy a fluid film sprayer if you don't already have one, the one they supply is sh!t.

i would explore something like this if it were an inital application. unfortunately cosmoline is difficult to remove unless its sprayed over with by something like an oily spray or deisel

I don't think you have to get cosmoline "gummy" A light coat should do it. If it's chipped then just do a quick spray shot.

Personal experience with rp342 is the only place I’ve had issue is water exposed flat surfaces. Where water pools, the coating eventually gets gummy, almost emulsified.

I'm sure it (or any coating) is fine,,, as mentioned; most are going to suggest what they use.
I think really any regular coating that remains for months is great.
I use Krown, but my local Krown shop is awesome, and they spray inside body panels as well.
