Yeah, vegan is not synonymous with healthy. A lot of vegan food is extra processed as well, to make it taste / feel like something else.

Sounds like you have cut out a lot of simple carbs, so that has probably made the biggest impact (not a doctor / nutritionist).

Yep. Stock up when it’s on sale. The price always goes up. I used to buy 1440 rounds of 7.62x39 for like $199 Canadian! Now it’s more more than doubled.

And the more the price goes up, the more people panic and stock up, which drives the price higher. Basic supply and demand, economics 101...

I also bought my sks for $299 CAD back in the day. And this was a cosmoline greased unfired Chinese military weapon built on Russian gear with Russian supervision in the 1950’s. Not norinco crap. You could get a 10 rifle crate for $2500. Now rearmored deployed SKS are $699

I have my ammo supply to where I feel good with it. Now I only restock what I use on my 2 or 3 times going shooting a year. I'd go more, but the cost of restocking keeps me in check haha

The military surplus is good for a long long time. It’s hermetically sealed in sardine cans. They also paint lacquer around the primer and where the bullet seats. And mercury primers last forever too.

I cut most all simple carbs years ago. About 6 mos ago my blood work was pretty bad and Dr wanted to add cholesterol meds and up one of my injections. I told my wife no I’m not doing it I knew my diet had slipped and I would handle it. I’ve cut most all carbs and stay pretty strict. This has worked to the point I be had several bad lows, all my numbers have corrected themselves, lost another 15 pounds, and she has lowered my nightly injection twice now to try and prevent lows. What I’m doing may not work for everyone but I’m having good luck so far. From a prepping perspective the more meds and come off of the better.

I lowered my cholesterol by eating a handful of almonds a few times a week...

And now they are part of my prepper stuff.

Hey I can easily go through a thousand rounds of 22 in a year. Or other calibers, esp back when I was doing 3 gun. There's a reason why my primary practice is with lasers these days. 1) don't need a range, can do it at home just fine. 2) batteries are cheaper than bullets by far, and I get a LOT more pulls than most.
I just don't think it's relevant as a 'prep', outside of some unlikely scenarios. Lots of things to do before needing to reach for the ammo box. YMMV, of course.

    ...

Oh, shot black powder for the first time last week at a scout camp. Not sure I'm a fan, you still need a supply of caps for the common stuff.
