I pass by this dollar store almost every day after work. It's been a while since I last went in because the shelves are usually empty. But yesterday, I decided to check it out. As I headed towards the HW section, I spotted two kids - a young teen and a pre-teen. I couldn't help but wonder what they were doing there...kids don't really need Hot Wheels, right? But as I got closer, I saw that the pegs were full and they were busy picking out cars. I introduced myself and asked if I could join in. We all started looking through the cars...the pre-teen already had a bunch pulled out. Since I was taller, I started from the top and worked my way down. That's when I noticed that the case on the pegs was pretty old (Case K) and I found a '83 Chevy Silverado, HW Slammed 1/5 [Black] 191/250. I showed it to the boys and they thought it was cool. I also found a white civic and asked if the younger one wanted it. He said yes, so we continued looking and chatting about cars. I then spotted a 5 pack with a Green Chevy truck (flames) and the Mopar 5 pack. I asked if he had those and he mentioned that his grandma had given him the 5 pack with flames. The younger boy found another slammed truck and was thrilled. Just as I was about to leave, the pre-teen discovered a treasure hunt (Toyota Land Cruiser, Then And Now 2/10) on a shelf behind him and was over the moon. In the end, they had about 12 cars and I had 3. I kept asking the older one if he was going to get all those cars since the price will add up, but he seemed to have some money. I said my goodbyes and bought my 3 cars. It was a fun experience chatting with new collectors. I think the collecting bug has been planted...

 

This past weeks finds!

 

Collector 55 Chevy Gasser with wheel swap and white roof added. Had to go back for repair after picture was taken to get body fit issue corrected. Volvo P1800 was primered and sanded. Liked it looking sort of ratty compared to the other ones. The 58 Corvette had a wheel swap and the black removed from the bottom.

 

Bet Williams63 dosent have this bug.

Has to be a matchbox because of that trailer hitch and ragtop. That black door gap says repaint? Always love seeing the vw bugs, especially the ones I don’t have. Custom or not!

 

Had at this with a dremel tool, HW real rider wheels. Didnt touch the pain, just the roof, i like that green.

Funny i never noticed the MBX love of the trailer hitch till you mentioned it awhile back. Even the old original cars had them.

 

You know I may not have that color. Have one close but I don’t think it’s the same. I always thought it was funny that they put that trailer hitch on there. I have a lot of matchbox vw’s and they all have it.

Good Saturday everyone. While at work I was asked to run an errand about 30 minutes north of where I work. Luckily I wasn’t given a specific time on when the parts I was picking up needed to be back. So I decided to stop at one of our local flea market. The usually spot I try to stop at wasn’t open but I did locate another booth. Scored a few from that booth and then another couple from another cool vendor that gets some nice classics in from time to time. The accord was an eBay score that arrived in the mail this morning. Couldn’t score that one locally so figured I’d try eBay and ended up getting for a decent price. Stoked on all the old school and gassers. Wanted to snag up as many older HW as possible before it’s too late. Can’t find them in the stores anymore lol. Thought the VW bug truck was pretty rad.

 

Todays finds! Snagged the Hotweiler because I’ve got a Rottweiler so it was fitting!

That video is awesome. I would like to note for the old school muscle car guys.. as with muscle cars, there are quality builds and quality parts and then the tacky stuff that’s cheap. The parts he mentioned in this video were not cheap back in the day, when he said, she built this car, she built this car, right! I know the computers in cars turn off a lot of dudes, but it almost made things easier when it comes to troubleshooting problems. There are quality rice burner builds out there. As with any car. Rs*r HKS blitz, comptech, hondasport, spoon, anything type r. Veilside.. these were highend quality import car parts, a lot of hw have these advertisements on them and we will probably be seeing more in the future. I’m not trying to talk trash. I’m just saying some of you guys might not know about this stuff.
