just a couple of things tbh
These were the other bikes parked with us that got soaked lol. We had looked at the weather and knew it was going to possible rain but said meh we want food and to meet up with friends. Didn't meet the friends since they were an hour away and that storm was going that way so we would have been in it the full way so just rode around then went home.

I dont mind getting wet, its the damn visor getting wet that drives me nuts.

I really need a road helmet so I can put aquapel on it.

I find when you're moving its fine, but low speeds its annoying.

Alright, it's official, August 11th I'll be doing a fly and ride on the BMW S1000XR :bikewheelie:

Not gonna lie, a little terrified. 160HP, will hit triple digits in 2nd, 170mph theoretical top speed. Hellooooo rain mode for the first few miles haha My current bmw is 85hp (theoretically brand new 14 years ago..) with a longer wheel base, so it'll be quite the difference.

Well, when you get the itch to twist the throttle with abandon, think of the little bundle of joy and how much you need to be there. It'll keep you sober minded and safe. Have fun, but do it safely.

    Dang! That sucks.

    But if you’re keeping score… motorcycle 1, truck 0.

Back safely from Ohio and Vintage Motorcycle Days. It is definitely something to experience!

It's a racetrack so that counts for this year's Team Strange event. 2 birds, 1 stone and all that.

Met Wendy Crockett and got her to sign my copy of her book and also to sign this: The doctor's note for me to have off work she jokingly posted on an FJR forum, screen shot and printed out. Her husband laughed.

After seeing them asking $3400 for this 1975 Honda CB400F Super Sport my bike must be worth at least $6000, mine runs and is complete.

Looks like a great time you had, and the signed Dr’s. note is pure awesomeness.

She actually called her husband over to see it. I'm planning on sticking it in a frame and hanging it up at work.

I never even made it over to the motocross track to watch any of that. Friend of mine actually ran into Lyle Lovett over there.

Just there wandering around and taking pictures. Not sure if I would have known who he was on sight but friend of mine recognized him, gate a pic with him and chatted about music and motocross bikes.

Anyone here use a chain alignment tool after tensioning or do you just go by the hash marks on the swingarm? Pretty sure mine are not even close (side to side), but how accurate do you really need to be to avoid excessive tire/chain wear? I can't get a good bead on axle-bolt-to-swingarm-pivot measurement either.

Depends? My old cb750 the hash marks were stickers and way off, I used the motion pro alignment tool (little rod that clamps onto the sprocket and goes down the chain) on that guy. They were probably a little less than 1/4" off of each other. My other bikes I've verified the hashes are mostly true and just go off those. No idea on required level of accuracy, though.

I verify closeness with a measuring tape on bikes when I get them from a reference point that works on both sides. All of them have been spot on (sans Chinese shitty pit bikes)

Got a reminder of the risks we take to enjoy the ride today.

Was on my way home from a mountain bike trip up in Bellingham, and ended up on the scene of a recent crash. Saw some debris in the road and some cars around, so rolled up to investigate as it was in the intersection for the on-ramp to I-5 south. Turns out what I was seeing was a moto frame and plastics that had been kinetically distributed all over the intersection. Rider was down behind the FJ, having allegedly struck the side of a passing SUV and vaporizing his bike (red Triumph from a logo'd shard of plastic, but bike was unrecognizable). I was the second medically trained person; first with a first aid kit to arrive, the first being the blurry dude kneeled over in the picture, an off-duty firefighter thankfully.

During a quick C-spine assessment, rider became combative + partial repeating question/reboot cycle you see in DanDan's YT videos; confirming head injury. First real world example I've experienced. Dude was OUT when FF guy arrived, and came to shortly after as I got there. AGV K5 helmet def did it's job as did his racing jacket and boots, taking most of the impact pretty well.

Rider was struggling to breathe as the helmet was up over his mouth and nose obstructing, so the decision was made to pull the neckrolls and cautiously remove the helmet. I would have kept in place myself, but having a certified FF being lead, went with his judgement, esp as the rider kept trying to remove it himself, potentially furthering injury, so chose the lesser of evils. I stabilized c-spine as he removed his lid and well...his face was pretty fucked up, could tell the inside of the chinbar hit him in the mouth as he impacted the vehicle. Front teeth top and bottom were hella gone, lower jaw def broke, likely upper palette damage as when I saw inside his mouth, roof was where it isn't normally, partially obstructing. Also, hand was completedly detached from wrist inside the skin. He went to point something to me and had the floppy glove going on, at which point the moaning really started. FF/Medics on scene about 10 mins later, and whisked him away pretty quick. He'll be OK in time, but gonna have a long while to get back to it.

    Takeaways:
Thankful to have a fair amount of citizen-applicable medical training (highly recommend a WFA, etc course + FA/CPR)
That training teaches what to do, but the situations themselves depart textbook pretty quick. Nobody practices for combative patient, etc.
Glad I keep a IFAK-type first aid kit in every vehicle I own
