Hey yall. Names Daniel. New here and new to Tacoma ownership. Bought a ‘23 TRD off road 4x4 in ice cap 5 days ago. Loving it so far. I’m sure I’ll have a ton of questions in the future but my biggest right now is why does the truck shut off when the doors are unlocked after being remote started, and how can I stop it from happening? Happens when I use the key fob or the Toyota app. I’ve never had a vehicle with factory remote start function like that. Seems it could wear out the starter quicker essentially starting the truck twice every time. I live in south Louisiana so the need to get the air conditioner cranking before I get in the truck is immense. Haha. Sorry if this has been asked or answered before, I searched but didn’t see this exact question.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Daniel - Welcome to TW.
This has been discussed in several threads. This is how it works. Seems Toyota feels that anyone could hop in your truck and drive off if it DIDN'T automatically shut down when the door is opened. After all, you're not gonna be near the truck when you remote start it.
Are we all getting so soft that we cannot endure a short time inside a hot truck while the A/C brings the temp down to a more comfortable level? And don't care about burning the fuel to get the inside temp down?

You can't just hop in and take the truck. If that were the case you could just break the window and drive away... but you can't. In the 2+ decades that the factories have offered remote start none have ever allowed the car to be driven away without the "key" being present.

I'll admit that this "feature" bothers me more than it should.

so soft? No. But after driving a Silverado for 12 years and my wife’s Honda for 7 with factory remote starts and not having the vehicle kill when I get in it has definitely spoiled me.

I blame it on the lawyers! Floor mats, seat belts, air bags, sensors, more warnings than ever (car moved ahead, slowing, etc)... "Most" people can't drive, some way over their heads and having a car compensate isn't helping matters much. I'm sure remote start/door open went down this path...
